I got to thinking about my schedule and how I used to game all night, and sometimes all weekend. Now, I putter out at about 11PM. I blame it on my gaming buddies all doing the same, but my red eyes say different.

How about you?

Dude, I'm checking my eyes for leaks by around 9:30.

Back in college, everything I started in the evening went to the next morning.

But I still have Moritz beat, I turn into a pumpkin at 10:00.

My group cuts off around 11pm, but personally I could keep on trucking for another couple hours. I'm a night owl by nature though. If I had my druthers, I would probably play until 1am or so.

Somehow whenever I run a game, I seem to outlast the players who are getting disturbingly younger and younger and seem to only want to go until 1am or so.

On the other hand, I just came from a game (that ultimately didn't happen) which was supposed to start at 10AM.

If I had my way I'd start in the morning, game until late evening (midnight-ish), have everyone stay over, and start again the next morning. Realistically, I start in the morning (around ten) and stop around dinner time.

Unfortunately as I get older I can't stay up and game, particularly on week nights. I had to drop a game because I couldn't work 9-5 (OK, 10-6) and then game from 9pm to 2am or later. In one case we went until 5am and I nearly fell asleep at the wheel on the highway.

Well, if I had my way then all sorts of stuff would be different, I'd not have a 21 year old step-son living off of us, doing nothing. I could have a game room. We could quit paying $175/week in food expenses. I could potentially have players over to my house.

All sorts of stuff.

I can't help it, I'm old. :)

We usually stop around midnight as most of us have families and the guys have to get up the next morning with their kids/wives!

In my last campaign we ran from 7 - midnight and went over if things were intense and hard to stop doing. ;) I did my best to prevent that, but sometimes the players wanted to keep going.

We originally started at around 8:00 pm but it keeps getting pushed back later until it resembles 9 pm to 2 am. And then there's the 10:30 pm starts where I suggest we throw out everything else and just do Space Hulk or Dungeon Quest and have a shorter night.

Woo hoo, new record. I was up to 10:21 last night playing WoW.

Yeah, I'm old.

My Tuesday game usually ends about midnight, but my Saturday game starts around 10pm and usually ends about 5 or 6 in the morning. That is my usually bedtime anyway so no big deal. And yes, I do have a daytime job.

Niko,
You don't have a daytime job, you're independently wealthy. AKA Super Mega Rich.

Well, when I was in the Middle East, we had some games going from 7pm to 7am, then maybe a few hours during the day...if we weren't hiding in a bunker at the time...but now, my bed time is 9:30p...unless there is enough adult beverages, snacks, and much needed Mountain Dew to keep me awake I could do a longer night.

Were you serving in Iraq?

One of our group just went back a couple of months ago, and another will be going back soon. Their perspectives have been priceless, but came at a very high cost to them and friends.

I was in Kuwait for the whole war cause I was communications and they wouldn't let me into Iraq cause of what I handled with my job. The one time in my life I felt important enough to someone :D .
Then I got dumped in Africa.

Lost a bit of friends (Marines, I was also a Marine) in that crap that Jessica Lynch involvement.

As long as I'm conscious enough to enjoy the game I'll play well into 5am if the other players and gm can last that long. But that depends if I have school and/or work in the morning.

Heh, just last night I was up just past 10:30 at Rangers stadium watching them win. I slept till 9:21. Yeah, I'm getting old. 5am is way out of my potential for play.

6 - 10pm on Tuesdays and 1 pm - 6 pm on Sundays.

we will play past that if we're not at a good stopping point but we usually stick to schedule.

I would prefer 6 - 8 hour games but I'm not sure the rest of the group would be into it. A couple of them live an hour away so its even longer for them.

My group plays evenings 7-11, but I know I can go much longer. ;)
My old group used to be Friday nights 7ish till yawning about sunrise. Then we we go to IHOP.

Ah, those were the days. Unfortunately, it would be a rare day that I could get away with that now. Even though my wife doesn't generally wake me or complain if I sleep late, my son usually manages to wake me up with a random squeal or scream by 9:30 - 10 am if I'm sleeping in. So, staying up ultra late is basically out these days.

I'd kill for a group like that :D That sounds like loads of fun.

Rain Spider, she's so young and perky. I remember back in the day, when I was 21, full of life, vigor, and yoga didn't kick my ass every other night.

lol I'm not perky at all, I'm just a night owl... I'd probably wake up just a few hours before a 7 pm game then play all night and after ihop I'd be dead to the world :p unless I had school in the morning, then I'd be a zombie for the rest of the day :D

Send his happy ass off to the Army! Seriously though I hope you can find a way to motivate him to get working and able to support himself. If he can't support himself now how is he going to support you and your wife in 10-15 years?

The Army is a good start.

But if he's not doing anything now, he won't like doing something in the Army.

I loved the Army, it was like playing war 24 hours a day. But it was only a means to an end to get where I am now.

It was the Marine Corps for me.
Recruiter called.
I answered.
Went took ASVAB, and physical.
Asked when I could ship. They gave me the day after Thanksgiving.
This was on Monday before Thanksgiving.
I told the family at dinner. It was very much like the "I'm pregnant pass the potatoes" silence at that one. :D

Personally I would make him work.
I'm giving my son 3 choices when he graduates High School. In all 3 I will support him and or assist him as needed.
1. College
2. Military
3. Job - one were he can use fully. I'm not talking the Fry Cook at McDonalds, but one worthwhile. Even if it is doing the old Apprenticship Programs for HVAC or something.

Wednesday group is 5:30 pm to 11 pm. Sunday group is 3:30pm to 11 pm. I guess I am getting old too, no more all nighters for me. I always want to go longer on Wednesday, but after working all day it just isn't in me.

Back in the day my buddies and I went outside to take a break to discover that the sun had come up. Like many of y'all, I'm heading towards bed around 9pm.

I'm not sure where my gaming is going to fit into my life right now. I've got to get a group together first. Hopefully it can be a group of 30-somethings with families and jobs who are content with 2-3 hours after work one weekday.

Do kids even play this stuff anymore? Everyone I've run across who does any sort of RPG are in their early 30's. The closest I've come to is when I went into a shop to sell a bunch of old Magic cards and encountered about ten teenagers engaged in a Magic tournament. I felt the urge to make them all do push-ups till I left. (I loved being an NCO!)

So, over last weekend I went out with the girlfriend and a friend of mine to a party. We left the party around 11pm and once home the girlfriend went to bed and my buddy and I stayed up till 3am playing Halo3. Then woke up at 8am and played most of the day.

So, all this week, I've been a really tired gamer trying to catch up with the sleep lost over the weekend. Most nights I would fall asleep around 7:30-8pm.

I'm to old for this crap :)

One of the groups I am in runs from 5 to 10 pm. The VtM game I am starting tomorrow will start around 8 and go until 1 or 2 or whenever we stop.

But then again my husband and I are second shifters so we normally go to bed around 4-5 in the morning. ;)

We also don't have any childrens waking us up at all hours of the day. And we never will. :D Gamers for life!

Oh and I am 27 and he is 29, both under 30...if only slightly these days.

Hey don't feel old, I'm 21. I work and go to college, I work a second shift job and by 12:00 I am about ready to pass out.

Thankfully and regretfully there are no gameing groups around where I live, so my excitment comes from PbP games which work for me except they can be a little slow some times.
