First I cast LOCATE OBJECT on Tronja's cloak. I had posted early in the game on that I spent time studying her cloak for just this situation.
Kamiel (Tronja) is 500 feet away from you on the surface. She ran down the tunnel you passed through toward the tower you first arrived at. She climbed to the surface and your best guess is that she's heading toward the remains of the third tower. The one near the pit where the dragon was hiding out at.
Then I put on Yang's magic headband and try to communicate with her.
I offer to trade her one of the prisoners for the trident.
"All four, and we have a deal. She's still moving toward the other tower."
Note: just like the other tower, this one has to passages out. The one you arrived in which leads to your tower, and another that leads toward the third tower. However 50 feet it it is blocked by a pile of rocks.

So far this is the magic items that have been given out.

I do not have any use for the magic dagger of poison, so I will return it to the stash of treasures we have accumulated.
I hope to be able to use the spells on the scroll to help the party as I did with the ROCK TO MUD spell.

Based on the information I have collected so far, my guess is that the dragon is working with the Amalites. Or vice-versa. If I continue to track Tronja's movements, she will lead us to the dragon's lair.
Then I put on Yang's magic headband and try to communicate with her.

We just kicked ass and scored our first big victory, let's not lose our treasure and/or our prisoners. Yang, Melias and Trolvies are tied up and at zero hit points, and Ikrom is dead. Vi has identified what magic they had. Now, let's look at our strategic position...
* There are three ruined towers 500 feet apart, and they form a triangle.
* Two of the towers have an underground chamber like this one, we're not sure about the third tower.
* Each tower is connected by a tunnel, and the two tunnels leading to the third tower are blocked by rocks.
* We know where Kamiel is, she is in the third tower. But we don't know if there are any other Amalites.
* The dragon is outside our tower, and unfortunately so is Adara.
* Whoever has the black trident, they are above this tower.
The first order of business is to help Adara. I believe Typhon, Roh and Sorrel are trying to do that now. Then we need to make sure were not attacked. Any ideas?

Roh, Sorrel and I are looking for Adara, but we (as players and characters) can't do anything until she posts again.
Adara had a headband, but we returned it when we traded our two prisoners for Moadin.
Only Vi had a headband on, and she just took it off.

Hopefully tonight. She is just leaving for work at 6:00 am and going to school from work till 10 pm and then gets home around 12 pm and crashes on Tue, wed, and thurs.

((Same - waiting to see what she is doing. Since, if she is returning, it would be the round after (or at most two after) the rest of us climbed down, it seems as though the group is pushing getting ahead of her actions.))

((Really? I figured the ring of Righteous Might would be perfect for you. Oh, and with the IDs - Roh would only really be interested in the lenses. Of course, he'd always be happy with coins and gems as well. And if no one else is interested in the magic dagger that Vi returned, Roh could always use a magical back-up instead of the normal ones he has now.))

I'm not really interested in taking anything of the treasure. Although, I'd like to know what the unholy symbol is. I don't think I'll be able to approach it to examine it further (I'm LG and it has Magic circle vs good).

I think we might have gotten lucky keeping the trident from some of these items, if used in conjunction the bearer would be a difficult foe indeed.

I'd like one of the headbands. There will be five of them once we kill that disgusting thing otherwise known as Tronja. Each of our spellcasters should wear the headbands so we can keep in contact with each other. I'll volunteer to wait so the other spellcasters (Vi, Adara, Jannys and Kadion) can use the first four headbands.
The only other item I really like is the Ring of Invulnerability, if nobody else wants it.

It won't help you kill the dragon, but it will help keep you alive. You'd benefit from the Full Plate +4 and Heavy Shield +4.
Magic armor adapts its size to fit the wearer.

Spells can be cast out of a spellbook as a scroll, but they disappear. There are some duplicate spells from Ikrom's spellbook, so I figured that I should give the duplicates to Kadion to cast as a scroll. They are...

Roh and Sorrel also climb down the ladder, followed by Typhon who closes the hatch.
All ten of you are now inside the same room, with your four captives.

Do not heal them, do not keep them alive. Kill them now and burn their bodies. Cyrus' head too. There is nothing to be gained in keeping them alive, and alot to lose.

Ouchie!! Sorry about that guys, got caught in the downdraft of the Dragn's wings. Gotta remember that Raven's aren't strong, just tricky.
Well, Lightning damage is there, but not enough. He can save against at least 1/2 of it. Hmm... gotta go over the spells I want available for tomorrow.
(uses all other spell options left over to heal those who are hurt the most. Any Ravens hurt will get a Goodberry.)

With my great sword I take Melias' head off (he's tied up and unarmed, no need to roll). I throw his head into the pile, then his body.
Then I walk over to Yang... "You're a priest of Shar and their leader. You're not going to tell us either, are you?"
I take out my great sword again, slowly, giving him a chance to speak. If he says nothing, I chop his head off, and throw his head and body into the pile to be burned.
Finally I walk over to Trolvius... "If you talk and get your girlfriend to surrender, we'll let both of you live. If you're really helpful, then both of you can go free.

Go ahead, they are of no value to us, and a proven risk to be kept alive. Typhon, please burn the bodies then bury them along with the other skeletons in this chamber and in the other tower chamber.
Speaking of risks, we need to make sure that this tower is not attacked, and the other isn't taken so we can be attacked through the tunnel. I will cast an ALARM spell in the tower above us, and one half way down the tunnel. The ten of us will be allowed to pass, but no one else.
I am going to cast ROPE TRICK meditate for a while, to change around some of my spells.
We need to create a plan for tomorrow to attack the dragon, please think up some ideas. See you all a bit later.

I suggest we place the Item in the bag. the bag should allow any of us to carry the item. after we finish dealing with our current problems we can take the Trident and the Unholy symbol and destroy them both. As it appears we still have a duty to destroy the trident.

Yes, I realized that. That's why I asked Kaidon about it. In any case I wouldn't be able to approach it to properly dispose of it or bring it to a temple. (Magic Circle vs good, I'm LG)

Vi cast two Alarm spells, Jannys cast two Glyphs of Warding (Blast), and I will also cast two Glyphs of Warding (Blast-Sonic).
Jannys, which type of energy blast will you use? Cold may work the best here.

Silly Roh... so the thought of burning them down here did enter your mind.
It would be much better to burn them in the room above us, and I know just the creature to do the burning.
Please allow me 15 minutes to reorganize my spells, then I will have them burned to a crisp. While I am meditating, please have the bodies and everything else you want burned moved up top. Thank you.

With my great sword I take Melias' head off (he's tied up and unarmed, no need to roll). I throw his head into the pile, then his body.
Then I walk over to Yang... "You're a priest of Shar and their leader. You're not going to tell us either, are you?"
I take out my great sword again, slowly, giving him a chance to speak. If he says nothing, I chop his head off, and throw his head and body into the pile to be burned.
Finally I walk over to Trolvius... "If you talk and get your girlfriend to surrender, we'll let both of you live. If you're really helpful, then both of you can go free.
"Go screw yourself."
I slice Trolvius' head off too. Then Roh and I and whoever else wants to help brings the bodies to the upper part of the tower.
I look outside to see if I can spot the dragon.

Ravens were interested in feeding on the dead bodies (assuming there's no evil taint to them. If there is, they'd probably stay away from them.) Would've followed him up to let Ravens know it was ok to eat. so, would've been behind Typhon (figure 3/4 coverage from immediate attacks.)

There is no evil taint.
Adara and all ravens need to make individual saving throws.
There would be no coverage, Typhon was up the ladder and walked all the way to outside the tower.

I would assume before this crazyness of going up happened they would be healed.
I also would tell them that the Dragon is really smart and that they should really be careful.
Knowing what I know I would have told them not to go up.
Still they may have gone up anyway.
Rolled 12 on anything to convince them that going up at all was a bad idea.

The Dragon has been hanging out above the tower, waiting to pick off characters dumb enough to go outside. Like Adara (took 50 hp) and Typhon (took 58 hp). It is now breathing on Vi (57 hp), who is out of claw and bite range inside the tower.
If this is the case, then my character did cast Quench in the mouth of the dragon, instinctively, before ducking back into the tower. If not, then the 50 is not actual, since Adara never went up. Clarification?

If the dispel attempt fails, then you took the full 50 earlier.

(this depends on whether we're figuring char lvl or spell lvl)

There is no forest fire.
There is no fire elemental.
I am treating the dragon as a magic item, in regard to its breath weapon.

I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing.
While Jannys and Roh are helping evacuate the room I run down the tunnel and check out the other tower. I want to see if the dragon was able to break into the room above as it did here. But either way it would be better if we stayed in the tunnel. I'd hate to be toasted in the middle of the night because the dragon broke in while we were sleeping.

Remember, it is pitch black so you have to move slowly. You arrive at the room beneath the other tower, and it is empty as you left it. You climb up the ladder and the room upstairs is also empty. But you do notice that the opening to outside is larger than before, large enough for the Dragon to get in.

From an earlier post... a description of the ruins from the outside.
After walking for an hour and a half, Adara spotted a Red Dragon on the ground near some ruins. She didn't get too close out of fear of being spotted. The party stopped about a half mile from the ruins on the trail and took cover in some brush and trees.
Ghezryln and Adara are stealthy enough to safely get a closer look. All that's left of the castle are the ruins of three towers that form a triangle about 500 feet apart. Each ruined tower is 100 feet in diameter and made of stone. The towers were wrecked in some great battle long ago, and what's left of them is up to 30 feet tall in some parts, ground level in others.
The Dragon is occupied with the far two towers, going back and forth between them and a third spot which appears to be a hole in the ground. Occasionally the Dragon lets loose a plume of flames into those two towers. It looks like it's hunting something.
The ground is rocky, but there was decent tree cover for you to get a hundred feet from the ruins. There is sporadic brush in the ruins, but not enough for good cover. The Dragon has probably been burning out the trees around the ruins to prevent prey from taking cover. You estimate that you have another two hours before dusk.
From an earlier post... a description of the upper room.
Typhon, Ghezryln, Kadion and Semaria run around to the other side of the tower to try to find a way in. Part of the wall was completely destroyed in a 10 foot wide section, allowing for an easy entrance. The stone roof seems intact, and is ten feet high and two feet thick. The tower walls are five feet thick.
While running around they caught the attention of the dragon who was 450 feet away. The dragon took flight and is heading toward you. The ten foot opening won't keep the dragon out, and it sure as heck would be able to breathe on you (range=120 ft).
Inside the tower are the remains of six skeletal bodies that look like they were burned. In the center of the tower is an iron trap door, three feet square.

The trap door sat over a three foot diameter passage straight down with a ladder on the side. It's pitch black down the passage and you have no idea how far down it goes, or what's down there.

The passage goes through 20 feet of the stone foundation and into a large room. The room is 80 feet in diameter (about same as the above tower room, 15 feet high, and has a dirt floor. In the center is a ten foot diameter pillar that serves as a support, and the ladder you used is mounted to the side of it. Inside the room are a couple dozen rats and five skeletal bodies of past adventurers who were trapped here. There are a dozen used up torches mounted on the walls. Also there are two passages leading out of the room, each are eight feet high and five feet wide. Your best guess is that they lead to the other two towers that form a triangle 500 feet apart.

Got an Idea, Can the wards be cast anywhere? or do they have to be on an object, if on an object do you have to be touching it?
heres what I thought, if it can be cast on an object that is not touched cast wards on the dragon, if not than cast them on the top of the tower so when the dragon is close they will explode doing damage.

Normally I only have 85 HP, but during the battle I had Endurance (16 temp HP) and was raging (16 temp HP). The damage I took came out of the temp HP first, so I'm down 56 HP.
First I will hang out in Sorrel's healing aura until I'm half healed (down 42 HP).
Then I will go to Adara, Jannys and Semaria and ask for Cure spells.

When I was downstairs I would've received a Cure Light Wounds spell form one of the priestesses.

Normally I only have 85 HP, but during the battle I had Endurance (16 temp HP) and was raging (16 temp HP). The damage I took came out of the temp HP first, so I'm down 56 HP.
First I will hang out in Sorrel's healing aura until I'm half healed (down 42 HP).
Then I will go to Adara, Jannys and Semaria and ask for Cure spells.
Kadion, save your spells. I have more to use than you do.
Cure Light Wounds (L1) on Typhon, 5+(1d8=7/8/4)=12/13/9=34 points.
Cure Minor Wounds (L0) on Typhon, 1/1/1=3... total 37 points.

It wouldn't be too wise to attack the dragon today. We should hide out here for the rest of the day, make a plan for tomorrow, regain our spells, heal a bit more, rest the night, then attack tomorrow.
We should attack the dragon with enhanced (Strength, Dexterity and Constitution) fighters again, and add Protection From Fire and Air Walk. That's even more spells than we used today, are we all on board with that?

My PROTECTION FROM FIRE absorbs 57 points (previous attack), and 39 points (this attack), ending my protection. My RESIST FIRE resists the last 20 points of damage. Not a single hair on my body was burned.
I cast PHANTASMAL KILLER on him a fourth time (DC=26). I have one more to cast after this, but will hold off. I climb down the ladder and rejoin the group in the tunnel, away from the dragon's reach and breath.
So far I've done 13, 10 & 11 points of damage to the dragon, and it's made its saving throws all three times. It can't keep making its saves forever.

I am concerned that the dragon will be able to dig us up beneath this tower, or be able to dig up a tunnel. Can you harden the stone above and around us, or block off the portal leading up so it can't breathe down on us?

"Unfortunately, I can't really do much about the durability of the earth around us. And honestly, a dragon's claws aren't built for digging. Now if he had a team of Dwarves, I'd start dinning myself, as a bear (good diggers, those) on the spot. However, I might be able to help us dig an escape tunnel, if I soften the earth and stone in a particular area. Anyone care to decide where I soften it??"

Roh starts ushering others out, down the opened hallway - concentrating on making sure that the party gets cleared out of the room. As the party gets out, he follows behind, calling up to Vi to let her know they are gone.
Those of you (everyone) who went into the tunnel between the two towers, the mud on the ground was only an inch deep. All of a sudden it starts getting deeper, especially further into the tunnel. The mud stops getting deeper when it reaches three feet deep in the center of the tunnel.
The Dragon sets off Vi's Alarm spell, Jannys' Glyph of Freezing (4+4d8=23 points), and Semaria's Glyph of Sonic Blast (4d8=17).

While Jannys and Roh are helping evacuate the room I run down the tunnel and check out the other tower. I want to see if the dragon was able to break into the room above as it did here. But either way it would be better if we stayed in the tunnel. I'd hate to be toasted in the middle of the night because the dragon broke in while we were sleeping.
Remember, it is pitch black so you have to move slowly. You arrive at the room beneath the other tower, and it is empty as you left it. You climb up the ladder and the room upstairs is also empty. But you do notice that the opening to outside is larger than before, large enough for the Dragon to get in.
I'm still in that other tower, do I see the dragon, or signs of Tronja or anyone else?

You see Tronja's muddy footprints leading out of the tower from the portal, little else.
If you look outside, it is noon. You can see both other towers, but no signs of life.

OOC: Sorry All, I have been at the college all day, just made it home. Ed, I thought I canceled the Improvisation is in the Spell Compendium, I will PM you the disrciption. THough I doubt I will be useing the spell again, It was one I choose at the start of the game and forgot to use.
Also Semeria told me to cancel the healing spells, so I won't be using them. FYI I was subing 2nd lvl spells for first as you told me I could. So in short I never used Improvisation, or the healing spells. Sorry for the confusion. I will try to aviod it in the future.

I start digging, upward, towards the dragon (intention, trap pit.)
(Spell is directed both overhead, and towards far wall, in direction of tower where Tronja was last detected/seen. If necessary, will blow 2 spells to do this. Will also pull another beastie from my Bag of Tricks (Tan) <Assuming a general role, will most likely pull a Brown Bear out, but you can roll it if you like. Don't have dice here.> And order trick 'Dig' for the far wall.
Here's to hoping people get the idea and pick something to do.

I went back and reposted these, so everyone remembered the details of the structure where you are trapped. There is 20 feet of stone between you and the Dragon.
The passage goes through 20 feet of the stone foundation and into a large room. The room is 80 feet in diameter (about same as the above tower room, 15 feet high, and has a dirt floor. In the center is a ten foot diameter pillar that serves as a support, and the ladder you used is mounted to the side of it. Inside the room are a couple dozen rats and five skeletal bodies of past adventurers who were trapped here. There are a dozen used up torches mounted on the walls. Also there are two passages leading out of the room, each are eight feet high and five feet wide. Your best guess is that they lead to the other two towers that form a triangle 500 feet apart.

Of course there are ways out, and DIMENSION DOOR is one of them. Probaby the best way out.
On the contrary... being sealed in here away from the dragon is the safest thing for us!

The Dragon arrives at your tower and proceeds to drop a few rocks on it. The roof of the tower collapes a bit, and then the Dragon piles rubble over the portal down.

The party will most likely have to file out of the tunnel one at a time, and it will be waiting, if it can find our new tunnel. Quiclkly the bard supresses the pesismistic thought and falls alsleep to a night of dreams that were so like the night he lost his fiancee'.

The dragon will eventually get bored and go away. It sealed us in here for a reason, and that reason is not to allow us out so it can eat us. It wants us trapped in here for some other reason.

Yes, very good suggestion Jannys. I imagine that we will try to sneak up on the dragon while our fighters are enhanced with offensive, defensive and flight spells, and our spell casters play a support role from a safe distance.
To me it would be embarrassing if we tried to attack the dragon while all spelled up, then could not find or catch it. We need to lure it into a location where we know where it will be, where it can not escape us, and where we can get to before our enhancements run out.
We must scope out the area, to see if what's left of the three towers, or elsewhere, will work for us. I will volunteer to go on a scouting mission, and would like to invite two others to come with me. Preferably two others that can move quickly and remain hidden from the dragon. I can DIMENSION DOOR myself and two others somewhere on or above the surface. Then each of us can check out one tower as a possible location for our ambush. We will then meet back in a central location 16 minutes later. I will be using FLY and INVISIBILITY. Is anyone else willing to look for a suitable ambush location? I would like to check out the third tower, the one that we have not been to yet.

Good, that is three of us. I would like to check out the third tower, the one that we have not been in yet. I will teleport us to the center of the ruins, and each of us will check out one tower. When we decide to battle the dragon. I can cast an invisablitiy sphere on the casters to hide them from the dragon, well at least initially. The casters can summon monsters and cast healings spells and support spells while remaining hidden as they are not attack spells. I can Also provide spell support and ranged combat. and summon a flying ally or two. I know they don't last long but all extra attacks are worth it and my combat spell will most likely fizzle out on the dragon.

Sorrel stretches and was about to get comfortable when he heard Vi's suggestion. "Ah the dragon will see through your invisibility spell. He will be able to see you hide. He will cast spells on you and since you are splitting up he will attack each of you all by your loansome since you are splitting up.
I would suggest to wait till we are all ready to go. This Dragon is smart, has lived longer then us and probably smarter then us. So we all need to work together and no scout mission will work. What will happen is on of you will be in trouble the other will come get us and we will have to attack before we are ready. If you are sure that we can survive in here and get our rest then we should do that.
Or we should go out in force. I can think of no other option that doesn't equal one of us not becoming Dragon food. Because the dragon is a 5th level caster and a huge fighter who can fire ball us at will and has the strength of more than two of us put together."

I am going to use my DIMENSION DOOR spell in ten minutes. As far as I know Jannys and Roh are going to go with me, but I will confirm and ask them again.
OOC: I'll cast the spell tomorrow morning. Hopefully Anaestesia and Zane will post by then, letting me know they still want to join me.
Thank you Semaria, the PROTECTION FROM FIRE will be very helpful. I will do my best to keep safe and out of trouble. I will be wearing the headband of TELEPATHY and will keep in touch with Adara, Jannys and Kadion.

Then I will go alone. After Semaria casts PROTECTION FROM FIRE on me, I put on Yang's headband, cast DETECT MAGIC, RESISTANCE, META/EXTEND INVISIBILITY and META/EXTEND FLY on myself, then DIMENSION DOOR as close to the third tower as possible.
I will take a quick look for the dragon, then fly into the tower and look for its lair.

Watching everyone settling down, despite the noise above, Adara decides to do first watch, so that the others can get as much rest as possible. The Bear summoned will continue diggin out the escape hatch as much as possible, with Adara feeding it a Goodberry every so often.
After a 3 hour watch, she'll wake one of the others (the Monk, or the fighter) to take 2nd watch, then settles down for a rest.

You arrive at the tower, which is in worse shape than the other two. There is no floor inside the tower, just a big pit the same size (60 to 80 feet in diameter) and depth (35 feet) as the other towers. At the bottom of the pit are the two tunnels leading to the other towers, and they are completely caved in. There is a third and larger tunnel (25 feet in diameter) that leads downward at a 30 degree angle. It is rough and unfinished, and its direction is leading away from the ruins and underneath the mountainside that is beyond the ruins.
You spot two other things of interest. First; the Dragon is sitting over the remains of the first tower you arrived at. Second; you see the Halfling Twopins carefully making his way through the ruins toward the tower most of the group is presently beneath. He is half way from your location to the tower. The Dragon hasn't spotted him yet. Lastly; you see no signs of Kamiel/Tronja.

I'm not sure if the entire group is ready to rest yet. Vi is relying on you, Jannys and Kadion for telepathic communication.

Nope, I was the Bear digging upwards. The other bear is digging towards the last known location of Tronja (other tower.)
As for the resting part, was working off of the Wandering Minstrel's Post, figuring that watches were being figured out.

Nope, I was the Bear digging upwards. The other bear is digging towards the last known location of Tronja (other tower.)

Adara's Bear and Typhon dig for 10 minutes, then the Bear disappears.

At the base of the pit you look into the tunnel and can see about 30 feet in. As you fly in you can only see a few feet beyond you, until you get a hundred feet in where you can only see a bit of light behind you.
When you cast your Light spell you see very rough walls, with stones and bones scattered around.
How much further do you want to go?

Regardless of who goes with you (Kadion, Typhon, Sorrel, Ribe, Ghezryln, etc), you Dimension Door up to the tower above you safely.
Twopins is relieved to see you, and is anxious for you to get him back down below ground to safety, away from the dragon. Once you return back to safety, he talks to the group.
"I'm glad to see you all again. I'm sorry for the way I left last time, but Ziggy, Cyrus (before his death) and I were fighting the same enemy you are, and for a much longer time. When I left you abruptly two days ago we still weren't sure of your intentions, after all you were hired to hunt or kill us by the Amalites themselves.
Alot has happened since then. Ziggy and I beat the Amalites here, and we made it down into the dragon's hole. They were trapped in this tower by the dragon. Ziggy temporarily blocked the dragon with some spell, but there was nothing we could do in the belly of the dragon's lair. And yes, it's full of gold and other treasures!
The leader of the Amalites was down there, so we hid in an extradimensional space (aka Rope Trick) until just recently. Kamiel (you know her as Tronja) returned and told it (some sort of undead creature) that you had killed the other four, but were trapped here by the dragon. The dragon's name is Enthalpus.
Ziggy and I attacked them. I killed Kamiel and Ziggy killed that undead thing. At least I thought he killed it. It possessed Ziggy and now he's working for the Amalites with Enthalpus. I took Kamiel's headband and scimitar, and ran away while Ziggy was distracted. Before I climbed back up to the surface, I saw that Ziggy was raising Kamiel from the dead.
Once back on the surface I saw the dragon on one tower, so I snuck over here to find you, and offer my services to destroy the Amalites and that evil trident once and for all.
Here is Kamiel's headband, I don't want that thing. But I would like to keep her scimitar. By the way, could I please receive to Cure Light Wound spells? This scimitar is sharp and hurts. By the way, Enthalpus has the evil trident.

Looking at the bottom right of PHB-1 page 28, I had rated this type of knowledge as 'Obscure', so you don't know much about this specific Dragon. However you do know that historically Chromatic Dragons were not friendly toward the Shoon Dynasty a millennium ago.

Vi's time runs out on her FLY and INVISIBILITY, but decides to stay longer. Instead of returning with DIMENSION DOOR, she casts META/EXTEND ROPE TRICK (it will last for 16 hours).
"I will return a bit later. For now I want to continue watching this tunnel, to see what passes through."

After Bear goes away, Adara, in Bear form, will make happy bear sounds, bound over to halfling, and rub up against him.
Once initial greetings are done, and the halfling is knocked down by happy bear pouncing, she will lumber over to the spot where the first bear was digging, and continue until it is time for first watch, which she will happily take over, so sothers can rest.
