Vi: Your first Fireball did damage, it burned an area around your target. Your second Fireball fizzled out like the one you cast a Ziggy two days earlier. Yes, they now have a Lesser Globe up. The Bag of Holding is still there. You get an extra round since the others needed time to close on each other.
In the current round you were just hit with a Fireball... 9d6=31-20(resist)=11 hp.
You are 600 feet above two Amalites (Tronja with the Bag & the spell caster).
So I'm 600 feet up in the air, all my spells are either out of range or won't work, I can only move at 60 ft/rd, and the jerk on the ground can hit me with nine dice fireballs up to 760+20 feet at will.
As Yoda would say... "Up without a paddle shits creek I am."
Who wants to live forever... I dive down as quickly as possible and cast MOUNT directly over the two Amalites.
If I allow myself to fall like a rock I should be able to get off a medium range spell next round.

Jannys, Semaria, Adara & Twopins: You are still back at the trail. Two celestial lions come out of the brush from the opposite direction and approach you.
Jannys will pull out her mace and take up a defensive position
Me too, Semaria pulls out her trident and goes defensive.
Although I doubt I look half as imposing as Jannys does.

As soon as the fireball goes off I sprint up the side of the mountain.
If I see Tronja I go after her with my Fists of Fury.
Attack: 12+(d20=9)=21... Damage: 4+(d8=5)=9+2(str)=11
Attack: 12+(d20=8)=20... Damage: 4+(d8=6)=10+2(str)=12
Ghezryln and Roh: The enemy sent four horses to fight the two of you. You both kill one horse, but Roh takes a hoof for 6 points of damage.
Damn... I didn't want to waste my Fists of Fury on a stupid horse.
Attack: 12+(d20=14)=29... Damage: 4+(d8=8)=12+2(str)=14
Attack: 12+(d20=9)=21... Damage: 4+(d8=4)=8+2(str)=10
Hopefully I can get to Tronja next round.

Since I didn't make any battle rolls for the first round, I didn't think to this time either - but here they are. At least they are simple attacks since Roh is only facing horses.
Attack 1: 15+(d20=19 [Crit threat]) = 34 for 6+(1d6=3) = 9 damage.
(Crit check => 15+(d20=7) = 22)
Attack 2: 10+(d20=6) = 16 for 6+(1d6=2) = 8 damage.

I have a house rule on this. A character will survive up to negative their Constitution rather than a blanket -10.
A character with a Con of 16 will survive twice as long after going to negative hit points than a character with a Con of 8.

Kitties don't like water... And they don't eat their veggies!
1st spell=Entanglement
2nd spell=Quench (on kitties only)
After wetting the kitties down, I and my fellow corvus's will dive at them from above, keeping out of range of any dangerous natural weapons, if we can peck at them, so be it, if we can just keep them busy, all the better.

Once the kitties are tied up, going over to Vi... (Bag of Tricks/Tan=66 so, heavy warhorse) and tell horsie to help Vi and attack Tronja.

Sorrel: You are in combat with the Amalite you knew as Rashpart, and he's mounted. He is wielding a scimitar and has a small pouch in his other hand. Your attack kills the horse, but you take 10 points of slashing damage from the scimitar. Rashpart also threw some dust at you from the pouch, make a Reflex Save (remember the ring).
Ah shucks he hit my 23 AC bummer. Did the 10 points include my toughness -2?
Reflex save (D20 8) +7 + (1 haste) = 16 hopefully enough
immune to paralysis and sleep.
Power Attack 5 (D20 15) +5 = 20
Power Attack 5 (d20 1) miss save (D20 16)
Damage 4+4+2+3+5= 18
Did I sneak up on him? Or do I get a bonus as he falls off his horse?

He rolled a d20=19. You can deduct 2 points from that hit (10-2=8).
Reflex save (D20 8) +7 + (1 haste) = 16 hopefully enough immune to paralysis and sleep.
Damn... DC=15... I mean you made it!
Power Attack 5 (D20 15) +5 = 20
Power Attack 5 (d20 1) miss save (D20 16)

Thud!

The guys running by you 50 feet away were your own party. When you moved out a mounted Rashpart (aka Trolvius) met you in combat.

Vi: The summoned mount falls on the spot where Tronja (Kamiel) stood, but she avoided it. You are now 150 feet above the two Amalites, you may cast your medium range spell. After you do you get hit with another Fireball… 9d6=33-20(resist)=13 hp. If that puts you at negative hit points, prepare to go splat in one more second.
Typhon: You are in combat with the Amalite holding the Black Trident of Evil (Yanjidijian). You hit him three times with your great sword for a total of 69 points of damage. However he hit you once with the trident, which reduces you to one hit point to the good. Tronja has run out to join the fight against you. You may attack again or run away this round.
Moadin: You are in combat with the Amalite known as Justicar Melias. You hit him twice with your dwarven axe for a total of (15+18=33) points of damage. He hit you twice with his sword for a total of (17+15=32) points of damage. You may attack again this round.
Ghezryln and Roh: The enemy sent four horses to fight the two of you. You the last two horses, but Roh takes another hoof for 7 points of damage. You may search out any of the Amalites for combat next round.
Sorrel: You are in combat with the Amalite known as Rashpart (Trolvius), you had killed his mount last round. You made your save vs the dust he threw at you. You just hit him for 18 points of damage, and he hit you for 11-2=9 points of damage this round. A raven is flying around his head causing a distraction.
Kadion: You run by Sorrel and see Tronja (Kamiel, with the bag and your trident) and Blue Eyes (Ikrom) moving toward Yanjidijian (Yang, with the trident). You can fight them next round.
Jannys, Semaria, Adara & Twopins: Adara cast Entangle, Jannys cast Sanctuary and Semaria cast Fly last round. The two Celestial Lions are now entangled in the brush. This round Adara cast Quench on the Lions, getting them very wet. Semaria, you may cast spells or take an action this round. Jannys, if you get hostile it will cancel your Sanctuary.

Typhon: You are in combat with the Amalite holding the Black Trident of Evil (Yanjidijian)... Tronja has run out to join the fight against you.
Ghezryln and Roh: You may search out any of the Amalites for combat next round.
Roh sees the duo ganging up on Typhon and rushes over to help him out. If they are close enough to his position (within 45 feet), Roh uses his attack to make a trip attempt on Tronja with his whip dagger, saying "You are going down girl". Otherwise, he gets there and prepares for the next round.
Trip attempt: Touch attack: 15+(d20=16) = 31
If hit (likely in this case), Str check: 3 +2(bull's strength) +4(Improved Trip) +(d20=9) = 18 vs opponent Str or Dex check.
If I win, Troja is prone (-4 to AC vs melee) and Roh gets an immediate attack. 15 +(d20=16 [freaky...]) = 31 for 6 + (1d6=6) +(1d6=2)(whip sneak attack = 14 damage.

I need to be traveling now so I want to finish out this battle before I leave. I'll be back Friday night late.
Amalites: Ikrom (Blue Eyes), Kamiel (Tronja, has bag of holding & Kadion's trident) and Yanjidijian (Yang, has black trident) meet up and disappear before the group can reach them. The other two; Trolvius (Rashpart) and Melias were defeated in the battle and are either dead or held prisoner.
Vi & Semaria: Vi took 24 points and is at negative hit points. Semaria was flying and lands with Vi's body.
Typhon: You were reduced to one hit point, be careful not to trip.
Moadin, Ghezryln & Roh: You are in combat with the Amalite known as Justicar Melias. Moadin keeps pounding at him with his axe, Roh trips him up and knocks him down, and Ghezryln disarms him. The three of you can either kill him or take him prisoner. Melias does not do any more damage to anyone.
Sorrel & Kadion: You are in combat with the Amalite known as Rashpart (Trolvius). A raven is flying around his head causing a distraction. Sorrel keeps pounding him with his mace, while Kadion (noticed Tronja disappear) carves him up with his new scimitars. Sorrel takes 8 more points of damage, Kadion takes 9 points. Trolvius is now at negative hit points, the two of you can either kill him or take him prisoner (must be healed first).
Jannys & Adara: The two Celestial Lions were entangled, drenched, and now disappear into thin air. The two of you are alone back at the trail.

Look I really don't want to play good guard, bad guard here. But I don't think it would be good to let them free. I would be easier and safer to kill them. Typhon, I know that you at least agree, right?
look I think we agree with their deal, than release them. than we kill them or maime them beyond repair. I hate the idea but it is not safe to free them. Also the headbands or other equipment might allow them to get away with not answering the questions right. or give them away to communicate with the others.
After my comments. feeling dirty and wrong for the suggestion about killing two men, but really not wanting to let them go.

First, they are to relieve themselves of all magic items and valuables. They can replace the with the treasure Tronja stole from us.

The three of them (you recognize the sand colored cloaks) are on horses and are already a quarter mile down the trail going away from you.
A half mile ahead of them are two other mounted riders also going away from you. You can't see who they are.
I fly around the three riders to verify their faces. Once I do, I fly to just within 100 feet of the 3 riders, off to one side. I manuver myself to get the best vantage point, then look quickly at the sky to see if there are any clouds in the area.
<Call Lightning>
Once the three have been hit, I fly ahead to the other 2 riders, and cast 2 more spells-in the (20 sq/ft a lvl = 140 sp/ft) surrounding or just before the 2 riders, Spike Stone, and then once, they've moved off of the path, or nearer the vegetation, (20 sp/ft a lvl = 140 sp/ft)Spike Growth.
I am thinking of putting about 2/3 of the space allowed in front of them, in whatever direction they choose, and then flying ahead, to see what they're trying to reach.

Thank you Semaria, Jannys and Ribe. The healing was appreciated.
Look I really don't want to play good guard, bad guard here. But I don't think it would be good to let them free. I would be easier and safer to kill them. Typhon, I know that you at least agree, right?
If it were up to me the choice would be a quick and painless death vs a long and drawn out painful death.
look I think we agree with their deal, than release them. than we kill them or maime them beyond repair. I hate the idea but it is not safe to free them. Also the headbands or other equipment might allow them to get away with not answering the questions right. or give them away to communicate with the others.
That is wrong. If we're going to kill them, then we should tell them that. And we should give them the choice how they die. If they give us the info, then they die painlessly. If they don't, it will be quite painful and long. To maim a creature and let it live is both wrong and dangerous. If your goal is to kill them, then do it. If you maim a creature and it lives, you have a more determined enemy.
After my comments. feeling dirty and wrong for the suggestion about killing two men, but really not wanting to let them go.
I understand how you feel. If you are going to act, do so with deliberate and overwhelming power. Don't let chance influence the outcome. And by all means be honest in your dealings with others. They may be thieves, but to reduce yourself to lying to them places you at their level. That's why I'd tell them that death is their only final destination, but the path is up to them.

I know that Ziggy wants the treasure for himself, but he does not know how to destroy the Trident. But he does know of the Ruby of Truth. If you want to get into the crypt, you will need my help. Without it you will likely be killed trying. You made a big mistake in first letting Kamiel get away, then another by letting Twopins get away. Will you make a third and not accept our help? It's your decision!
Wait a bit after the tell us and keep asking ... Have you told us all of your group plans regarding us and the trident? ... I keep asking this over and over till the say Yes. Is there anything useful you could tell us that will help us with destroying the trident or avoiding your groups traps or ambushes? ... I will say that one over again till they say Yes.
I told you all I want you to know right now.
I told you all I want you to know right now.
I told you all I want you to know right now.

I reach into the pouch at my side and pull out a gem, (600g.) and crush it. I sprinkle a little onto one of the headbands. chanting the magical incantation.
You pick up one of the two headbands, they appear identical. It has two functions:
1) Thought Shield (Abj-2); protects from Detect Thoughts (Div-2).
2) Telepathic Bond (Div-5); links anyone wearing a similar item (25+5/2L feet).
After I have learned all I could about the head band I do the same with the scimatar.
This leaves 400g. worth of gem dust for others to use to identify items with, I will carry it in my pouch for now, if anyone needs it, it is yours to use.
If the rest of the group is patient and wants to wait, I'll do the identify.

Umm, guys. I know this is important and all.. but they split up and are booking it, I have a vague idea where each is going, but I can't move fast enough to catch up. Can we take this on the road... so to speak?
I agree with you Adara, but Sorrel is questioning the prisoners and Kadion is playing with the headbands.
As much as I hate to admit it, Tronja was right. We did need her to bypass the the traps in the burial chamber. Now that she's gone and Halfpint left us, Trovlius might be of some use to us if we take him with us. But they don't get the headbands of any of their magic.
Jannys, don't blind them yet. We'll need them to be able to walk without one of us leading them by the hand.
Semaria, I understand your bitterness. But we do need Rashpart, Trolvius, whoever to help us. We were naive to let the little runt halfling escape, so now we need to deal with the devil to complete our mission.

As the party travels, Roh continues to travel with the lead group, using the lens to check for magic ahead of them regularly. Being on Rocky, he tends to scout out from the group, but moves no more than 100 feet to either side, since Adara is covering the forward scouting position. (Making sure that no one is waiting for us to pass and attack from flanking position. With the lens, that *should* clear 160 feet to the sides of any magic. And yes, I know we already made it past this, but it's what he would have done and will likely do after we get moving again.)
As the group approaches the keep and consider an advance party, Roh remains mounted, with the main group, waiting only a few feet away from the prisoners. He keeps his left hand on the reins of Rocky, his right free to grab a weapon if the need should arise.

After walking for an hour and a half, Adara spotted a Red Dragon on the ground near some ruins. She didn't get too close out of fear of being spotted. The party stopped about a half mile from the ruins on the trail and took cover in some brush and trees.
If nobody has a better idea, I'll scout ahead with Adara.
Ghezryln and Adara are stealthy enough to safely get a closer look. All that's left of the castle are the ruins of three towers that form a triange about 500 feet apart. Each ruined tower is 100 feet in diameter and made of stone. The towers were wrecked in some great battle long ago, and what's left of them is up to 30 feet tall in some parts, ground level in others.
The Dragon is occupied with the far two towers, going back and forth between them and a third spot which appears to be a hole in the ground. Occasionally the Dragon lets loose a plume of flames into those two towers. It looks like it's hunting something.
How much cover is there, what is the terrain like, and what time during the day is it?
The ground is rocky, but there was decent tree cover for you to get a hundred feet from the ruins. There is sporadic brush in the ruins, but not enough for good cover. The Dragon has probably been burning out the trees around the ruins to prevent prey from taking cover. You estimate that you have another two hours before dusk.

If that monster sees us we're toast. We can't outrun it, we can't kill it, we can only get eaten. Maybe we can find shelter in one of the towers? If we're looking for a burial crypt beneath the ruins of an old castle, this is it folks! Perhaps we can find a way into the crypt from the tower. After Adara nods her acceptance of the headband (muttering a prayer to her goddess of the forest over it before putting it on,) She quickly changes back into Raven form, allowing her firends to spread out in a 30' wide spread infront and to the side of the group travelling. Boy, 2 leggers can make such noise!
With 2 of the Ravens not doing the sweeps, they both dart ahead, looking to refind the tracks of the two groups that split up. Every so often, one of them will stop for a moment, and get an orientation of where the red dragon is, in location to itself and the group (looking for aggressive tendencies from it, of course.)

Unfortnately the tower walls are 20 to 30 feet tall on your side of the tower. Perhaps they're lower on the other side, but you'd risk being spotted by the Dragon.

Unfortnately the tower walls are 20 to 30 feet tall on your side of the tower. Perhaps they're lower on the other side, but you'd risk being spotted by the Dragon.
I'll wait to see if anyone else is following me. Then I'll ask Vi when a good time is to run around to the other side. When she signals me I'll/we'll move around and look for a way in.

I can't let that idiot risk his life alone, I'm going to make the run with him.
Before he runs around to the other side I'm going to try to climb the wall, taking height and ease of climb into account.
Climb: 6+(d20=7)=13
That likely fails, the DC is probably 15.
I'll run around to the other side with Typhon.

I kneel by the others. Using the activated message spell, Hey everyone I have a spell that will allow me to make an illusion and noise. I can cast it to distract the dragon. though it might be for a moment, it might be all we need. What do you think? I can make it look like a dragon, maybe a bronze, they live in areas like this right? that should allow us time to move the two. also I can run with Ghez. I will put all my equip in the bag of holding to move faster if need be.

Our best bet is not to attract the dragon's attention at all. At least not yet. After Typhon, then Ghezryln and Kadion, I will run (base 40 ft) to the tower too.

The ground is rocky, but there was decent tree cover for you to get a hundred feet from the ruins. There is sporadic brush in the ruins, but not enough for good cover. The Dragon has probably been burning out the trees around the ruins to prevent prey from taking cover. You estimate that you have another two hours before dusk.[/quote]

She will relay information to the monk, and to Vi or Sem, if either can hear her....
Really wishing that Vi had chosen to keep the other headband....
Are you selecting Vi as the person to wear the other headband?
Ghezryln just borrowed it for a short time while scouting ahead with you.
You don't notice any tracks that stand out from the others, other than some dragon claw prints.

[Before I ran to the tower] Vi said the map leads to this general area.
I'm getting tired and low on spells. That's why we want to see if we can find a safe place to rest inside or beneath the tower. I don't feel comfortable in the open with a dragon nearby.

Yep, you couldn't climb the wall.
Typhon, Ghezryln, Kadion and Semaria run around to the other side of the tower to try to find a way in. Part of the wall was completely destroyed in a 10 foot wide section, allowing for an easy entrance. The stone roof seems intact, and is ten feet high and two feet thick. The tower walls are five feet thick.
While running around they caught the attention of the dragon who was 450 feet away. The dragon took flight and is heading toward you. The ten foot opening won't keep the dragon out, and it sure as heck would be able to breathe on you (range=120 ft).
Inside the tower are the remains of six skeletal bodies that look like they were burned. In the center of the tower is an iron trap door, three feet square.

Hurry up and get inside, the dragon saw us!

With the extra four points of Strength Typhon has no problem opening the iron trap door and throwing it to the side. The door is little more than an iron plate with a handle in the center.
Two rounds have gone by since the dragon saw you, it'll be there in one more round (six seconds).
The trap door sat over a three foot diameter passage straight down with a ladder on the side. It's pitch black down the passage and you have no idea how far down it goes, or what's down there.
What does Typhon, Ghezryln, Kadion and Semaria do?
Adara, Jannys, Moadin, Roh (with prisoners and horse), Sorrel and Vi... you're watching from the cover of the brush, do you take any action?

Vi sees the dragon heading toward the tower, unfortunately the tower walls are blocking her MESSAGE spell so she doesn't know what's happening inside. As the dragon nears she regrets that she didn't ask Jannys earlier to cast Fox's Cunning on her. Hoping not to draw the monster's attention, she casts PHANTASMAL KILLER on it when it gets within range (170 ft).
After that (should the spell not work) and should the dragon attack them, she looks around at the group. Jannys and Moadin are well armored and may not be able to move as quickly as Roh and Sorrel. She mentions to them, "Jannys, Moadin, stay close to me. If the need arises I can DIMENSION DOOR with two other people. Roh, Sorrel, you may need to make a run toward the tower. Adara, you and your friends should be able to fly there."

"Oh crap." Moadin says in his gruff voice when he takes note of the Dragon's doings and then what Vim notes. Moadin then pulls his weapon and shield close, ready to hide behind the shield if the need arises. He then glances around for an escape route, he suspects that he will be running for the tower like the others and sets his feet in the dirt. "Just give the word and we'll scatter."

As the Dragon approaches the tower you cast the spell.
Will (DC=22): 13+(d20=5)=18... fail, it sees and believes the illusion.
Fort (DC=22): 16+(d20=18)=34... save, it only takes 3d6=15 point of damage.
You caught it's attention, it's looking around for you. Instead of entering the tower after the others, it walks around the tower.
Uh oh... I think the "HUGE" monster spotted Roh on his horse (or just the horse if he dismounted).

The passage goes through 20 feet of the stone foundation and into a large room. The room is 80 feet in diameter (about same as the above tower room, 15 feet high, and has a dirt floor. In the center is a ten foot diameter pillar that serves as a support, and the ladder you used is mounted to the side of it. Inside the room are a couple dozen rats and five skeletal bodies of past adventurers who were trapped here. There are a dozen used up torches mounted on the walls. Also there are two passages leading out of the room, each are eight feet high and five feet wide. Your best guess is that they lead to the other two towers that form a triangle 500 feet apart.

I cast Light (L0) on my trident, making it glow like a torch (20 foot radius). Then I cast Detect Magic (L0) and look at the five bodies and all around the room.

"Just give the word and we'll scatter."Roh looks to the prisoners as members of the group run for the tower. "Be sure to keep up, or you can be left for the dragon's snack. After all, we are here now. You claimed that you could still help us, and if you keep up, keep quiet, and do help us - then you will be released unharmed. So get ready." As the dwarf prepares himself, having seen the dragon moving to where their companions fled, Roh moves over to Rocky and gives him a slap and a command to flee, hoping that the horse will just find nearby cover and wait - but not really expecting that to be the case.

Roh looks at the dragon moving toward them, and when it pauses overhead, he mutters "Think you're safe up there?" As he moves his spiked shield in front of him, as though he were aiming, he says to Vi, "Get those two (the prisoners) over to the tower, I'll catch up." He then says "Ripondo, Ripondo" and a pair of the spikes on his shield go flying off at the dragon. ((Attacks: 14/9 +(d20 17/10) = 31 and 19, for 1+(d10 = 8/2) = 9 and 3 points of damage. Moadin, being the neutral good dwarf that he is, sees the dragon approaching and grumbles something about 'new plan sucks'. His feet propel him forward toward the approach and he starts yelling. "HEY, YOU BIG DUMB DRAGON, OVER HERE." as he is running away from the group, "COME ON, COME AND GET ME."
Moadin is running 45 degrees to the left of the tower. Hoping to put distance between him and his group also trying to distract the dragon. Eventually if he can, he'll cut toward the tower, hoping to be able to get to it, but it is doubtful even to him that he's going to make it.
