If Jannys doen't mind I'll take first watch. Tronja isn't going anywhere so I'll take her with me. Instead of hunting for a meal, we're going to set some perimeter traps in a 100 foot radius around the camp. They're designed to alert us if anything approaches us. Like lions. We'll do the best we can in two hours. Did I spot any tracks from my previous roll?

Spot: 2+(d20=1)= 3... I guess I'm too busy working with Tronja on the traps to look for anything.

"And who said I couldn't magic up some food?" <spell=Goodberries> "Here, enough to share, plus for the animals besides. And there must be a tributary near here for the river we just passed. Next morning, when we find one, we can leave the path and let the horses drink their fill... well almost. We don't want them to founder."

"Now, as to the guard duties, I'd be happy to watcj Tronja here, and keep the campsite tidy of all enemies. Typhon, I think we'll get along together fine."

Pulling out a small item, she focuses for a second, then a large nest forms from it. Made of twigs and shiny stuff, it seems to becon all the Ravens in the area.

Kaughing to her their thanks, she nods, then kaughs to one in particular. It rustles it's feathers, then hops out of the nest, and walks over to her. After a few moments, it flies back up into the air. Adara changes back to Raven form again (3rd time today DM) and vanishes into the dark.

[quote=Vimachipal;7278]I will stay around the camp, where the horses and people are. If Sorrel wants to walk further I'll keep an eye on him.

Sorrel goes to sleep after getting food in his belly.

When it is time for his watch he says "Thank you for waking me. I will take over for you. Enjoy your sleep."

"Good evening Vi. I am going to sit and rest by the fire where I can see the whole camp."

Sorrel will make sure that our friend is still with us and quietly sit through his watch. He will get up once and a while to walk near his sleeping companions and make sure there is nothing near them.

With the spells cast by Adara an Jannys the party can go to sleep with a full belly. That made grumpy Typhon very happy, considering that he didn't catch anything to cook.

Half way into their watch Sorrel and Vi heard one of Tronja's traps go off. Vi can barely make out a humanoid head about 150 off into the woods, away from the grassy meadow you were traveling in. Someone is hiding behind a large tree, spying on your camp. I will assume that Vi casts a Message spell and tries to communicate with Sorrel what she sees, but Sorrel can't see it yet.

Sorrel and Vi, what do you do?

I alert Sorrel to what I see and where it is, then cast EVARDS BLACK TENTACLES centered on that spot (20 foot radius). I walk up to it and demand that it surrenders to Sorrel immediately. If it doesn't surrender and looks like a threat I'll cast PHANTASMAL KILLER. I can also cast DAZE, MAGIC MISSILE, ACID ARROW and FIREBALL.

Once you cast Evard's... Vi and Sorrel notice there are two of them. "Them" are humanoids with large lion's bodies, and they are fighting the tentacles. Both are making headway in escaping the tentacles and show no signs of surrender. Your Phantasmal Killer spell kills one, and the other is about to escape.

Do you want to cast more spells?

What is Sorrel doing?

Is anyone going to wake the rest of the party?

Walking up flexing his muscles and pounding his sword against his shield loudly. "Tell me why you are here and you may live!!"

They were very angry, now the surving one is extremely angry. You see two more appoaching from the distance (about a quarter mile).

After a moment there are now seven of these creatures struggling in the tentacles. Since they're all moving in the exact same manner, you figure that six are duplicate images, but you'r not sure which is the real one.

Both Sorrel and Vi are walking toward the creatures and are now 60 feet away.

The rest of the party wakes up, and can react as they choose to Sorrel's noise.

Current Round:

Sorrel & Vi: You are now 60 feet from the creature, which is almost free of the tentacles and is extremely angry. It has created a number of images, so you don’t know which is which. The other creature is dead. Sorrel noticed two more off in the distance. Both of you can take an action this round.

Adara, Ghezryln, Jannys, Kadion, Semaria & Typhon: The six of you were just woken up by Sorrel. You can’t do anything this round, but next round you can either move toward the battle (but not join), fire an arrow, or cast a spell.

Next Round Initiative:

Next Round:

Creature: Charges Vi and hits her twice, for 5 and 6 points with a dagger.

Jannys: You summon two undead that appear 30 feet in front of you. They can attack next round.

Adara: You cast your spel on Vi.

Kadion: An area effect spell will hit party members, are you sure you want to do that?

Sorrel: I need your actions last round and this round. Do you charge into battle or use a ranged attack?

Vi: Roll concentration to get off your spell, then make two saving throws vs Fortitude [DC=15].

Typhon: Both arrows pass through an image, and those two images disappear (four images + creature left). You may fire again this round.

Gezryln is charging into battle, while Semaria and Tronja are staying back.

You cast the spell (touch required) on Vi, she is still down.

My next thought is to try to figure out this thing's weakness, and what it exactly is.

1) Know/Nature - 13 + 9 =22
2) Listen - 17 + 7 =24
3) Spellcraft - 9 + 3 =12
4) Sense Motive - 20(!) + 4 =24

1) The two creatures are Lamia, both are male.
2) It is growling and snarling, Sorrel is yelling, Ghezryln's tackle made a thud.
3) After Vi's failed Magic Missile, no spells are being cast.
4) It's extremely angry and wants to tear Vi apart limb by limb. It's not really interested in Ghezryln or Sorrel, but will fight whomever is close by. It wants to get at Vi's lifeless body and do more damage.

How much I know of the Lamia ( do I know everything from the MM or what?)

BONE FIDDLE
Necromancy
Level: Bard 2, sorcerer/wizard 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One alive creature
Duration: 1 round/level
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

You rub your middle finger across your
thumb like a bow against a fiddle while
simultaneously humming a discordant
tune under your breath. Nearby, you see a
translucent bone-white fiddle bow appear
and sink into the flesh of your target. It
begins sawing, as if playing your target
like a fiddle.

You call up a ghostly fiddle bow in the
air above the targeted creature. This
bow immediately descends into the
target body and begins to saw back and
forth against its skeleton. Although
the music produced is eerily beautiful,
it causes intense pain and anguish in
the victim. Each round on its turn, the
victim must make a Fortitude save or
take 3d6 points of sonic damage and a
–20 penalty on Move Silently checks.
A successful save negates the damage
and ends the spell. The spell's effects
continue even if the subject moves so
that you no longer have line of sight or
line of effect to it.

Sorrel (last two rounds): I didn't want to get too far ahead, so allow me to guess at you actions. If you want to change them please let me know.
- When the Lamia was struggling to get out of the black tentacles you fired your breath weapon at it, hitting it with a line of electricity for (3d6) points of damage.
- After if broke free and attacked Vi you hit it with your Flaming Mace for 8 points of bludgeoning damage and three points of fire damage.

Lamia: Sorrel hit it with some electricity, then with his flaming mace. It knocked down Vi after her Phantasmal Killer spell had no effect and her Magic Missile misfired. Then it was tackled by Ghezryln and they started grappling. As they grappled, music started resonating from its body.

Vi: You are out cold, despite that Adara just headed you. Semaria is running toward you.

Adara: You are sitting on a tree branch near the combat in bird for.

Ghezryln: You are grappling with the Lamia.

Jannys: Your two undead creatures will be in melee this round, roll attacks and damage. You can cast another spell or attack.

Kadion: You are flying 20 feet overhead.

Semaria: You run to Vi, you can cast Neutralize Poison at the end of this round.

Sorrel: You are in combat with the Lamia, do you wish to hit it again with your mace?

Typhon: You are at the combat area, you keep running sword in hand toward the other Lamias charging your position.

Off in the distance: The party can see ten more Lamias charging them. They are female and larger than the two males. They are all armed with Tridents. There is also a large Green Dragon flying over the Lamias. They will reach your position in two rounds.

This is a snapshot in time...

At the Wagon:
Adara: In the form of a bear just brought Ghezryln and Vi to the wagon. She is heading back to the combat zone.
Ghezryln: Unconscious.
Vimachipal: Just woke up, groggy. She has no spells.

At the Combat Zone (150 ft from wagon):
Dead Lamias: One was killed by Vi's Phantasmal Killer, one was killed by many wounds.
Jannys: Cast Prayer, leading two summoned undead into battle. preparing to summon two more.
Semaria: Getting ready to cast fly spell on herself.
Sorrel: He just dropped unconscious from a spell attack by the Lamia just before it was killed.
Tronja: Holding Semaria's trident, ready for battle. She just finished off the second Lamia.

Charging the Combat Zone:
Lamias: There are about ten Lamias charging those at the the combat zone. They are armed with tridents and will be there in two rounds. Flying above them is a Green Dragon which is attempting to flank the party from their left.
Kadion: Flying into battle on staff, preparing to cast Sound Blast.
Typhon: Charging into battle on foot with great sword.

Next Round Initiative:
Ghezryln: 7+(d20=17)=24
Semaria: 2+(d20=17)=19

No smile from Semaria, she is angry with Tronja for touching a weapon that belongs to the temple of Selune.

Kadion casts Sound Burst into the wave of onrushing Lamias. The sound waves don't do much damage, but they enough to take out more than half of the Lamias. There are now four Lamias charging Typhon.

Typhon - Make a Willpower Save [DC=17] before you can attack.

Sorrel - You were put into a deep slumber by the Lamia before it died. Tronja wakes you, and you realize that you will be in combat next round.

Jannys - Summon additional undead if you wish.

Semaria - You cast the Fly spell on yourself.

Adara - You can enter combat next round as a bear with the rest of the party.

Kadion - You can cast a spell next round, but I wouldn't advise an area effect spell.

To your Left - A 50 foot wingspan Green Dragon will arrive the same time as the Lamias.

You fall down where you stand and are unconscious.

I land my staff near Typhon. Stop and cast Bone fiddle on the approching Dragon.

Typhon owes you, you just saved his life.

Unfortunately you take a trident to the shoulder. It wasn't the 17 points of damage that hurt, it was the Harm spell that came along with it. You are reduced to one positive hit point. However the claw swipe takes care of that point, you take five more points of damage.

Next Round:

Typhon and Kadion are down near the Lamia and its three images.

Adara, Jannys (and her undead), Semaria, Sorrel and Tronja can attack or act this round. The Dragon lands 60 feet to your left and looks like it's going to breath at the group.

Semaria watched Vi and Ghezryln fall in battle after taking some minor damage from a lamia's dagger. Vi did not respond to Cure Wounds, but Neutralize Poison woke her up. I'm guessing Ghez was poisoned too.

Then I watched Sorrel fall down without being touched by a lamia, and he was easily awoken by that thing that took my trident without any magic. Typhon fell in the same manner, he wasn't touched by the lamia either.

Poor Kadion, he took it bad from the she-lamia's trident. Unlike the others he was thrown down like a rag doll and abused (sorry).

I'll Dimension Door over to Typhon and wake him, then heal Kadion next round. Since I won't be able to make any more actions the round I use that spell, I'll door to a foot above Typhon so my falling weight wakes him up.

The four Lamias attack Adara (as a bear), Jannys (and her undead), Sorrel (you may take an immediate action) and Tronja.

The dragon breathes a cloud of illusionary gas on the group that acts as a visual distraction, feels very cold, and stinks like hell itself. For this round all will act at -4. After this round the illusion of the gas and dragon will be gone.

Sorrel - Make another Will Save [DC=17]... even if you fail you still get your immediate action, but try not to fail this time!

Can I cast summon monster 1, celestial owl?

Yes, you had successfully cast it during the round the Lamia attacked Kadion.

This round make attacks & damage for your two undead, owl (if it fights), and yourself.

Or you can cast another spell. But if you try you'll need to roll Concentration because you'll be in combat with a Lamia.

This stick elf can't do much, I have no spells, no weapons, and an 8 strength. I'm going to run over to the battle and throw pine cones at the lamia.

There appeared to be four Lamias attacking, but three were images as was the dragon. Once they are touched they disappear. To simplify, all three images have now been dispelled. Previously Kadion took a bunch out with a Sonic Blast.

Sorrel was slept (Deep Slumber) by an earlier Lamia that is now dead, and he was later woken up. Sorrel being the largest combattant was targeted by another Deep Slumber spell from this Lamia, he needs to make a will save or he goes back to sleep.

Typhon being a fiercer looking warrior than Kadion was hit by Deep Slumber and is now sleeping. Kadion took nasty damage and is negative on HP. Semaria is presently waking Typhon and will cure Kadion next round. You ran to Semaria and took a defensve position to guard her and your two downed comrads.

This Lamia (a bit bigger than the other two) can cast Deep Slumber three times per day, Mirror Image and Major Illusion. She cast Deep Slumber on Typhon and Sorrel, and has one more available to cast. Her trident looks like a potent weapon.

Tronja the suicidal thief appears to be fighting on your side with Semaria's trident.

You don't have Detect Magic, but you do find some interesting objects.

Lamia #2: Dagger and jeweled headband.

Adara looks around at the wounded warriors, and takes stock. walking up to the one who has taken the most damage (Typhon, I imagine) she does 1) CSW ...

From being in Sorrel's presence for a couple minutes, the wounded (Jannys, Kadion, Sorrel & Typhon) are brought to half their hit points. Each will tell you where it hurts and how much, and Typhon is grateful for the Cure Serious Wounds (7+3d8=20).

and then lumbers over to Ghezryln and administes 2Neutralize Poison. If he doesn't wake up from that, 3CMW, ...

Just what the doctor ordered, Ghezryln gets up moments after you cast Neutralize Poison. In looking at him, he has suffered a Light Wound (5+d8). Do you cast that first level spell, or one or more Cure Minor Wound (1 point) spells?

then over to Lamias, and spell 4Detect Magic. My intention is to find what goaded them into attacking us, but will look at anything that is inherently magical. After a cursory search, and retrieving anything magical...

Upon arriving at the female Lamia's body you notice that Tronja is holding its trident (magic). It is black adamantine and highly ornate. In searching her she has two rings (one is magic), an amulet (magic), and three scrolls (two are magic), and three potions (all magic).

will go over to Vi and check on those there.

Only the two weapons are magic, the jewelry is not.

Black Trident of Evil

Heh... have you been reading my notes?

"I wanted to thank you Tronja for helping out last night. What made you change your mind and help the group?"

"I for one will like more of your assistance. Dear Tonja together I think we will all be in a better place then last night."

We got off to a bad start. Like every other creature I want to survive in relative happiness. You know, a roof over my head, food on the table, the presence of loved ones, and security from oppression like TAS. But there are conditions where survival is hell and it's no longer worth it. Like never ending imprisonment and torture by your enemies for trumped up charges (Tronja looks at Semaria and Jannys). Sure I'd love to help out and be part of a group like this. If I continue to be helpful and behave I hope the group will vote not to return me to my dungeon. Unfortunately I know that I already have two votes against me no matter what I do.

Reverting to Raven form (which for anyone watching, is an amazing thing to watch- morphing from Bear to Raven,) Adara cocks her head, looking at those around her, and at the Evil Trident laying on the ground (chewing gum anyone??)

Finally, making a choice, she makes a Kaughing sound (OOC- DM-Letting Ravens know not to touch the Trident) then lands deiberately on Tronja's shoulder, looking at Sem directly. After she makes sure that Sem notices what she's doing, she starts to groom Tronja's head, carefully. After a few moments of that, she hops off, to fly over to Vi's shoulder, where she waits for the group to continue their travels.

(OOC- DM-Going to take naps in the Wagon, per usual once underway.)

Can some one else drive the wagon for a while. I can take over later but i need to rest a bit more.

I walk over to Tronja. Thank you....I appreciate your help. We will not tie you up. Its bad enough that your bound with out rope. Can you use a bow? it appears as though we might have a spare. We also might be able to fin a sword or dagger, what weapons do you prefer? If you ever wish to talk I am always here.

I do my morning calesthenics during my watch, which includes a few laps around the camp site. After watch when the others awaken, I go gather some of the tall grass for the horses to eat.

When it's time to leave I suggest that the four guys ride the horses, Tronja drives the wagon as she did back in Almraiven, and the four fair maidens ride in the wagon. But if Kadion need to rest for his spells I can lead the other horse. Or perhaps Jannys wants to ride.

During our watch when Stinky ran circles around the camp I was busy praying for my spells. First spell I cast is Consecrate (L2) around our camp, there has been too much evil nearby and we need to purify.

Then I cast Create Food & Water (L3) for Adara, Ghezryln, Jannys, Kadion, Sorrel, Typhon, Vi and myself, but no one else. Ghezryln has fed the horses, so I'll cast Create Water (L0) for them to drink. I'll also use some of that water to clean the evil off my trident.

After eating I watch a raven land in the thing's green nest of hair and start eating bugs out of it. If I had any less a constitution I'd probably have lost my breakfast.

I raise concerns about letting a fiend drive our last remaining wagon, but my concerns seem to fall on deaf ears. So be it, I can fix it after she deliberately tries to wreck it.

Hey sister, listen here. Your very own Captain Rashpart told us to keep Tronja alive. Starving Tronja will not bring back your dead priests, all it will do is make our mission more difficult. So I'm giving Tronja my breakfast to eat, becauase I don't want her to die until after I collect my reward. I really don't care what happens to you or her after that. Now I'm hungry, where's my food? I get grumpy when I'm hungry. And most people don't like me when I'm grumpy, or when I'm hungry, or when I'm in my usual foul mood.

And I'll ride one of the horses... that one, it looks as pissed off as I am.

You were traveling WNW yesterday, but early on the forest line took a sharp turn and you're now heading due north. You maintain your distance from the trees, which is about 400 feet away. The grass is three feet tall plus or minus a foot in spots. It varies in color from yellow to gold to orange to brown in patches. The ground is fairly flat and solid, so you're making good time. The group is keeping to its plan of two six hour travel shifts with a two hour rest break in the middle. In that first six hour travel shift nothing eventful happens. The spellcasters have taken sufficient rest and have a full array of spells, except for Semaria who cast three spells and Adara who cast one spell. You're in the middle of an endless meadow, you pick a random place to stop and rest.

You're very welcome sir, and I'd be pleased to tell you about Selune. She is also known as Our Lady of Silver and the Moonmaiden, She is the goddess of light, the moon, stars, navigation, navigators, wanderers, questers, and good lycanthropes. Priests and priestesses of Selûne are a very diverse group, including sailors, nonevil lycanthropes, mystics, and female spellcasters. Our church's main objective is to fight evil lycanthropes and summon the Shards (blue-haired female planetar servants of Selûne) to battle the minions of Her archnemesis (and twin), Shar. Our temple also performs fortune-telling, healing, and practices self-reliance and humility. I'll tell you more a bit later, this looks important what Vi is doing.

Excuse me Vi, there is one very important detection spell you left out. Semaria casts Detect Evil (L1) on the items scattered all over the wagon. (DM, any evil?)

After we look at all the stuff we took in, I'll cast Create Food and Water (L3) for Adara, Ghezryln, Jannys, Kadion, Sorrel, Typhon, Vi and myself. If anyone wants to give their food to the fiend, so be it. I'll also Create Water for the horses (L0).

You look at the three simitars, two from the Desert Riders and one from the Lamias. They are exactly identical in appearance. Magic weapons are somewhat similar in function, but have different styles, these scimitars are brothers.

All three scimitars are magic weapons and both sets of bracers are of natural armor. You know they're magic, but you don't know how good they are or if they have any other functions.

The markings on the Black Trident of Death are diabolic in nature. Read above, Semaria said that it is overwhelmingly evil.

5) Ring (Cyrus)
6,7) Two sets of Bracers (desert riders)
8) Composite Long Bow, strength=26 (Cyrus)
9,10,11) Three Scimitars

We shouldn't need to cast the spell on the following items.

Bag of Holding, weighs 60 pounds (Cyrus)
Two Scrolls (female Lamia) - I'll READ MAGIC
Non-magic Scroll (female Lamia) - Decipher Script 18+(d20=7)=25

I think that is a good order.

I grind the first gem (100g. gem) and sprinkle it over the black trident. I whisper the words of the spell, and move my handsover the black object.
(Casts Identify.)

Here Vi. I can cast read magic on one of the scrolls as well. ( no reason to give you all the danger.) I take one of the offered scrolls (magical ones.) (cast read magic. and looks through one of the gems.) I gaze at the scroll, the other Items for any inscriptions on the items.

After this I take the second gem (2oog.) and grind it up splitting the resulting powder. I take the Posioned dagger careful to not touch the blade and sprinkle the fine powder over it chanting the words to the spell.
(casts identify.)

Breathing for a second. I grab the last gem (300.g) and grind it down as I did the last ones. I split this one into three parts. I pour the first part on the ring that was taken from the Female Lamia. Chanting the words that are nowcommited to heart I wave my hand over the small glittering object. I sit still listening to what my heart tells me of the ring.

Taking the second part I look around noting the passing of the day, how much time had gone by? I take the second ring, the one taken from the centuar. I sprinkle the powder over it as well. repeating the last process.

After I am through I hand the remaining part of powder to Vi. Here this should be enough for one more spell. How many have you commited to memory? I might be able to cast a few more spells. if you would like tell me how many you would prefer to use and I will clear the rest.

I grind the first gem (100g. gem) and sprinkle it over the black trident. I whisper the words of the spell, and move my handsover the black object. (Casts Identify)

The trident speaks to you through telepathy in an ugly and vulgar language you can't understand. You get the impression that it's insulting you, your family and future generations. You learn that it is +5, thouroughly evil, and very intelligent. It has more powers but is blocking you from learning them. After its tirade of curses, you finally understand a word it says... "Kamiel".

Here Vi. I can cast read magic on one of the scrolls as well. (no reason to give you all the danger.) I take one of the offered scrolls (magical ones.) (cast read magic. and looks through one of the gems.) I gaze at the scroll, the other Items for any inscriptions on the items.

You pick up one of the scrolls and read it. It has three arcane spells on it; Break Enchantment (L5), Rock to Mud (L5), and Shadow Walk (L6).

I will get into the other two scrolls in a moment, when I reply to Vi.

After this I take the second gem (2oog.) and grind it up splitting the resulting powder. I take the Posioned dagger careful to not touch the blade and sprinkle the fine powder over it chanting the words to the spell. (casts identify)

It is a +1 dagger with [10] charges of magical poison. That poison causes the victim to immediately go into a coma-like trance for 1d6 hours [DC=15, Fort].

Note: You can take some of the powder from the 200 gp gem and use it on another identify spell. The excess powder is not wasted, but that gem is now worthless.

Since you are taking a two hour rest break, let's just do the first two items, scrolls and potions. We'll get to the others later on.

You know that area was what many considered to be the heart of the old Shoon Empire a millenium ago. From ancient history it is also a region where powerful elemental genies fought each other for control of all Faerun. It is mostly a barren waste now, but it hadn't always been like that.

"I agree that it should be destroyed somehow. Tronja are we heading the right direction to catch your "friends" or are we off course?"

Lore has it that the Burial Chamber used by the Selunites was once a Shoon stronghold, probably the remains of a castle destroyed long ago. It is in the same general direction, the far southeast corner of the Marching Mountains. I'm not sure exactly where it's at, we'll have to pick up the trail of Ziggy and Twopins later on. Or pephaps we can pick up the trail of the three thugs chasing them.

How do you suggest we destroy that trident? If we bury it, it will be found again. Perhaps throwing in that pit will send it back to its home plane?

Typhon picks up the exquisite masterwork composite longbow and tries to pull the string. Eerrrgggghhhhh! Damn... that Cyrus was strong as a horse.

Typhon walks over to Jannys and Semaria and asks; "If at the end of the day you have excess spells, would one of you cast a strength spell on me? I'd like to see what it takes to use this fine bow."

DM, were there any arrows with the bow?

Yes, three quivers of 20 non-magic normal arrows.

Right now we don't have any way to destroy that trident. Burying it or throwing it in a river would be foolish, it would be found. Either it would use it's telepathy to be found, or some powerful evil creature would be able to locate it. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to sent it home, to another plane. I'm not suggesting that we agree to do that now, just that we consider it as an option for later. Until then nobody should touch it.

I think the best thing to do, is to keep it with us for now. I don't like this weapon but i don't think leaving it would be a smart choice. We might find a way to destroy it or send it home on our travels.

Vi, we should but that thing back into the bag of holding, no one can touch it there and it might be harder to detect in the bag.

OOC: DM I assume that the last to Identify spells I cast on the rings will be posted later as the day (in game time) progresses?

No problem!! On another note, should a magic circle be cast around it until, say, a cleric of high enough level or someone of similar standing can destroy it?

I assume that the last two Identify spells I cast on the rings will be posted later as the day (in game time) progresses?

Yes, I'll get to the other items after everyone weighs in on the trident, dagger, scrolls, potions, etc.

Do you want to do the amulet as well as the two rings?

Summary of what you have:
Bag of Holding, weighs 60 pounds
765 gold pieces (real gold)
Eight gems, all aqua (100,200,300,400,500,500,600,600=3,200 gp total)
Amulet, gold chain with yellow gem (2,100 gp)
Headband, gold with six red gems (2,900 gp)
Ring, gold with violet gem (1,800 gp)
Potions: Cure Critical Wounds, Flying, Invisibility
Arcane Scroll: Break Enchantment (L5), Rock to Mud (L5), and Shadow Walk (L6).
Divine Scroll: Hallow (L5), Raise Dead (L5), Find Path (L6)
Map: Drawn by trident to a crypt.
Trident: +5, thouroughly evil, and very intelligent. It has more powers but is blocking you from learning them.
Dagger: +1, [10] charges of magical poison, causes the victim to immediately go into a coma-like trance for 1d6 hours [DC=15, Fort].

To be identified while traveling in the afternoon:
Ring (female Lamia)
Ring (Cyrus)
Amulet (female Lamia)

To be identified at some later point:
Three Scimitars
Two sets of Bracers
Composite Long Bow, strength=26

Is everyone ready to leave yet after the two hour rest break? As soon as you leave I'll do the two rings and the amulet. You are keeping all the items inside the Bag of Holding (including the trident) except for the following:

Kadion will identify the two rings and amulet. He crushed the 100 & 200 gp gems, and has the 300 gp gem ready to crush as needed.

Vi has the three potions and the arcane scroll.

Semaria has the divine scroll.

Ghezryln has one of the sets of bracers.

Typhon has the Longbow.

The group needs to decide how it will divide up treasure.

That's a good idea, can you cast it on the wagon?

Semaria is holding the scroll with the spells Hallow, Raise Dead and Find Path. She doesn't consider the scroll to be hers, she's holding it for the group. Either Jannys or I can cast them for the benefit of the group.

Typhon

Good, let's get going. Ghezrlyn and I will ride and lead the other two horses.

Typhon has the Longbow.

I'm interested in this bow, but I can't use it yet. Leave it in the bag with the arrows.

The group needs to decide how it will divide up treasure.

How does this sound... whoever takes an item puts gold (or an IOU) into the pot worth as much as we could've sold it for. If two people want the same item, they fight it out. Whatever is used during the mission for the benefit of the party isn't charged to the person who used it, like a potion or scroll.

The Wandering Bard
Thursday 08-02-2007, 09:01 PM
I can abide by that way of dividing the spoils, or we can devise who would could use the item the best (for lack of better word) ex. I don't want a mace or a greatsword, or a divine magic scroll. So anyone who needs or can use it is welcome to it. If no one wants it we sell it later.

If theirs a debate over who can use an item more, we are mature enough to settle it like adults. or at that point it is who ever is willing to contribute the cash for it. how about that?

But yes we should keep moving, we can discuss this on the road. But for now, we can put everything that is not being used or Identified into this bag of holding and we can discuss it as we go.

I reach out and except the bow and arrows from Typhon and place them in the bag.

Ghezryln

I'm going to risk using the bracers. If the desert riders were using them and the scimitars, I doubt they were cursed.

The Wandering Bard

I commend your bravery, even though it does seem a little foolish. As soon as I Identify these rings I will cast it on your bracers.

Vi has the three potions and the arcane scroll.

I would like to hold onto the scroll because I believe that I may be most qualified person to use those high level spells.

After identifying the potions I suggest giving them to the following people...
_Cure Critical Wounds - Typhon, he gets hit alot and can't heal himself.
_Flying - Jannys, in case we get near water.
_Invisibility - Adara, it may come in handy when she's flying as a raven.

They shouldn't have to pay for using the potions as long as they use them to further the success of the group.

I see Ghezryln is using a set of bracers with no negative effects. Sorrel, perhaps you might also benefit from wearing the other set?

If nobody has any objections I'd like to use the poison dagger. Normally I'm opposed to the use of poison, but this poison only acts to put its victim into a deep sleep. I should know, I was victimized by it once.

Regarding the bag of holding, we should use that for the benefit of the entire party until our mission has been completed. Adara has expressed a strong interest in it, I have no objection to her taking it. But not until after the mission is over and we're paid for our services.

Kadion - I take it you also have Cyrus' wrapped head in that bag, correct?

Vi casts MAGE ARMOR on herself.

The Wandering Bard
Thursday 08-02-2007, 10:54 PM
Deal, I have no complaints of giving it to Typhon, does any one else object? I toss the ring to the large Half-orc.

See, its much better to just give whats needed to those who can use it. no need to pay if it will help us now.

As to your question Vi, yes I placed Cyrus's wrapped head is in the bag.

Another hour of travel goes by and Kadion identified the ring the female Lamia was wearing...

It is a Ring of Resistance +3 (use activated, meaning alway on). For those who were constantly failing saves, this item is for you!

The Wandering Bard
Thursday 08-02-2007, 11:16 PM
If nobody minds, I would like to use this ring. But if some one else would like it let me know and you can have it. I'm more intrested in the Scimitars.

Taking the last bit of powder from the last gem I crushed I sprinkle it over the amulet and mutter the incantation of the Spell. (casts Identify.)

Vi do you have any Identify spells in you can cast? I can only cast 3 more identify spells after this. which means we have two other things that need to be Identified.

Ed Zachary
Thursday 08-02-2007, 11:39 PM
After two hours of afternoon travel the treeline takes a turn toward the east. You don't want to follow that direction, so you turn leftward and head northwest. You are now traveling through unprotected meadow with no more trees in sight. You hope to be able to reach the mountains before nightfall.

Another hour of travel goes by and Kadion identified the amulet the female Lamia was wearing...

It is an Amulet of Health, Con+4 (use activated). For those who need more Hit Points, better Fort Saves, and better Concentration, this item is for you!

Kadion: Which items are you doing next?

Semaria
Thursday 08-02-2007, 11:43 PM

The Wandering Bard
Friday 08-03-2007, 01:41 AM
Alright I will begin working on the scimtars. I take the one that we got from the Lamia. And Identify that one first followed by one of those taken from the riders. I will than use my last two Identify spells on the bracers that the others are wearing. And save the last scimitar for tommorow after a rest.

I take the 500g. gem and grind it down spilting it into 5 parts. I sprinkle the first part on the first scimitar and mutter the incantation. (casts identify.)

This process is repeated three more times.
1. One scimitar from the riders
2.Bracers that Ghezryln is wearing
3. Bracers that were offered to Sorrel.

The last scimitar is placed in the bag of holding for later identification.
( this was written in order to save time.)

You're able to complete three more identify spells before the onset of dusk, for a total of eight spells.

Scimitar (from Lamia) - weapon +3
Scimitar (from Rider) - weapon +2
Bracer (from Rider, Ghezryln's) - Natural Armor +3

The party is about an hour away from the base of the mountains. Do you want to stop here or keep going for another hour? It will be pitch black in an hour.

There are four unidentified items; Scimitar, Bracers, Longbow, Bag

Adara, while the Identify spells are being done, towards sunset, wakes up, and flies into the sky, another Raven taking her place in the wagon. A couple of other Ravens, having darted to and from the forest and fields throughout the day, looking for food and danger, come in as well, settling down for a rest.

Once sunset truly starts glowing, Adara will fly up until she's high enough to see her surroundings very well, as well as farr out of reach of arrows as is possible while still in her sight range. To many, she looks like a blip of darkness in the sky.

Depending on how close they are to the Mountain Range, she will scout out dangers, campsites, water, and enemies or their tracks.

It's not smart to travel with a wagon in the dark, let's make camp here. Since Adara has the advantage of a bird's eve view, maybe she can recommend a spot. But as far as I'm concerned right here is as good a spot as any.

If she wanted to escape she could've last night when we were fighting the lamias. I'm not saying that I trust her, just that escape is not in her plans at the moment. Who's ever taking watch must be very careful to guard the magic bag. Absolutely no one should touch that trident.

If it suits every one I am willing to pay for the scimitars.

You guide Typhon to a flat area where the grass isn't so high. You spot a river three miles to the east coming out of the mountains. When it gets dark, do you land? There may be more predatory birds in or near the mountains.

I will Take First watch and sit up with Vi as I did last time. During my watch I will meditate and ready myself for the spells I will need for tommorow.

Last night the watches went like this:
First: Typhon and Tronja
Second: Sorrel and Vi
Third: Adara and Jannys
Fourth: Ghezryln and Semaria

You were resting to regain your spells. The previous night you had first watch by yourself, then you stayed up for second and third watch. You were casting spells all day today while the others rested.

For tonight Vi has already invited Sorrel to take second watch, and Semaria has invited Ghezryln. Other than that, work out your watch (if any) with the rest of the group.

Without regard to those creatures who may be asleep, the clanking of metal accompanies every footfall of the short legged dwarf who has made his way down from the mountains toward the encampment (party).

He presents himself as a fully armored, helm, shield strapped to his back, dwarven waraxe on his hip - hand placed upon the hilt - and backpack nestled underneath his shield. Perhaps a steel keg with legs. Short in stature, pushing 4 feet on a good day and almost as wide.

Approaching during the second watch, he will inadvertently trip any alarms set, and try to be as overt as possible even whistling a folk tune making sure not to be 'sneaky'.

Ed Zachary
Friday 08-03-2007, 11:54 AM
Tronja charges the dwarf as she knew him as an old enemy, then strikes at him with Kadion's trident. The dwarf easily deflects the weapon, but the trident does deliver a 4 point shock. Roll a reflex save to half damage, DC=11... is that correct Kadion?

He's one of them! We used to work together, now he's helping the elf try to kill us.

Being a light sleeper I hear the clanging of metal armor, the impact of weapons, and Tronja screaming.

Vi and Sorrel were alread up and will be a round ahead of me. I will sprint to the scene of the noise and be ready to fight or tackle if necessary.

If Ghez doesn't mind he and I will take the fourth watch again.

Sure, I'll help with fourth watch.
