What powers do scanners have besides nose bleeding telepathy?

I use a USB cable to power my scanner.
If I forget to close the cover, it casts a Light Spell at me.

That's right, they had Nose Bleed Head Explode! I kept rewinding the video for that one.

Wasn't Firestarter also in that world? Or was Scanners just ripping off the origin of powers?

Firestarter was a different world (Steven King). From what I remember, a group of students were given an experimental drug that gave them all psychic powers and made most of them go insane. The ones that survived were tracked and tagged throughout life. One pair had a daughter Charlie (played by the young Drew Barrymore) was the pyro that got to burn up a lot of people. I remember her father was the one that got the nose bleeds when he used mind control, mental illusions, and telekinesis. Then there was the sequel Firestarter II, where Charlie grows up and starts more fires.
Scanners were also given an experimental drug but prior to birth, for pregnancy pain or something like that, by a doctor. Most of the Scanners, if not all, gave out nose bleeds to their targets when they used their mental probes. The only pyro action I remember came from when a scanner was overscanned and lost the fight. Some of the power details were expanded upon with subsequent movies/books. The biggest drawback to being a scanner was in order to use their powers, the scanner had to link his nervous system to the target's. It left them vulnerable to backlash. Scanners, Scanners II, Scanners III, Scanner Cop, and Scanner Cop II are the movies they've done so far.
