Hey folks...

I figured I'd start a new thread for these. There are already too many non-Avengers over in the Avengers thread.

Sweet, can't wait to see Wolverine! Also, Beast is mucho expensive compared to Angel, not a knock on the builds, just an observation. I guess Archangel would even out the costs a bit.

Dragonfly

Yeah, Archangel would probably even the odds a bit, but think of what Warren could do with all of those Competency Dice! BTW, my design philosophy with THESE builds is to attempt and model what the characters can do in the comics - regardless of what the cost is. I try to keep them "accurate" relative to one another.

The other night I started to work on homages to these famous characters that stay between 20D and 30D. So far, I've managed to keep my Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man homages at 20D (although I might bump up the Thor homage to 30D and the Iron Man homage to 25D).

Their names are Freedomstar, Thunderbird, and Maiden America. Right now I'm writing them up as Silver Age characters, but I might update them to Modern Agers for a home grown universe that I've been tinkering with. I'll share more when I have more. :-)

Best,

Dragonfly

Once again thanks for making these DF. Any thoughts on tackling Rogue? Just curious to see how you go about building her.

I like him. Makes me think we need a Multipower rule though!

I assume Super Senses: Mind Scan only allows him to sense the presence of minds, correct? Not read them?

Hey Dustland,

Correct on the Mind Scan. Detect and pinpoint, but not read. Once pinpointed, though, I would argue that Xavier could affect that mind with his other powers, even if not in line of normal sight.

As for a multipower rule: as you noted earlier, I sort of effected a Multipower effect in my Doctor Strange build. Beyond that, I don't think I want a mechanic that makes powers cheaper in return for restricted use. SUPERS! powers are so broad anyway. Each Energy Control power is practically a multi-power in and of itself (covering what Champions would call Flash Attacks, Energy Blasts, Force Fields/Missile Deflects, Force Walls, and various utility effects).

Still, it is worth thinking about. Thanks for the feedback!

Nice work.
And same thing about "multipowers rule". In BASH, the same kind of rule bothered me when I tried to create supervillains.

Hey guys,

Here is my version of Rogue. Read below for some commentary on her build:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7265/6886038742_3304bb254d_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/45079249@N06/6886038742/)

Okay, so here are some notes:

1) I employed a new Boost of my invention for this build. To see how it works, read the post directly preceding this write-up.

2) Her powers have more complications than the RAW allow. I didn't give her a cost benefit (or a die bonus) for the additional complications. She just has them because that's how she is in the comics.

3) I'm not an X-Men fan, so I'm less confident about those builds than I am when it comes to the Avengers builds. Let me know if you think I'm off base in terms of ANYTHING (Resistances, Powers, Aptitudes, etc.).

Thanks!

I was suprised to see the 5d in Fort, but I'm not a comics guy so maybe that is appropriate. Anyway, cool build. I'll have to look at how you did the cost for the "linked" power when I get time.

Dragonfly

I felt funny about the 5D too, but she's been really tough and strong ever since absorbing Ms. Marvel's powers. Let me do a little research and see if she merits a lower Fortitude. The Armor power and the Super Strength might be good enough to model her toughness.

Thanks for the feedback!

Oh you're probably right DF. Just looked at this site...http://http://phantombunburyist.freedomforceforever.com/cripp12/QtoR.htm...
under the entry for Rogue. They have her with Superhuman level Stamina and Durability I think you are correct in the 5d fort. Cool build!

One more question, what was the thought behind Armor Piercing 4d on the Power Steal power? Just curious.

Dragonfly
03-31-2012, 08:39 PM
Hey Dustland,

The Armor Piercing is there because I've never seen Rogue touch somebody and fail to drain their powers, or drain a negligible amount. Usually, when she drains a power, she drains a power! I figured this warranted the extra *umph*.

What do you think. Too much?

Best,

Dragonfly

Dustland

I get where you're coming from, I just don't know if Armor Piercing is the best way to go. Keep in mind if Rogue attacks someone with Power Steal and fails, it doesn't have to mean they "resisted" the actually power drain, but maybe dodged the physical attack. Since Supers! doesn't seperate hitting from damage, it's a tricky thing to simulate.

Here's why I don't like AP for this build (this is totally my unsolicited opinion and I still love the Rogue build!). AP only gives her an advantage when attacking someone with the Armor power, which depending on the actual type of armor (a powered suit vs tough skin), runs counter to the Complication: Must Contact Skin.

For example, if this Rogue attacks Iron Man, she has a significantly better chance of hitting him than she would against someone like Beast who is in reality a prime target for her attack (since she can more easily touch his skin).

The only real "fix" that I can see would be to introduce a Power Boost that acts like AP but only against non-Armored targets. Something like this:

Touch Attack: Each die in TA counts as a 6 against an opponent that does not have the Armor power. However against some with Armor, you could have the boost be less effective? Maybe an Armored opponent gets a +1D to their resistance vs this power?

Just a thought. Love your Rogue build, just wanted to point out something that seemed a bit off to me.

Howdy Dustland!

Thanks so much for your feedback! First of all, you reminded me of something that I'd forgotten. I didn't remember (or maybe didn't realize) that Armor Piercing only assured sixes when attacking foes with the Armour power.

Now that you've pointed that out, I totally agree - AP is right out.

Also, you've reminded me of the narrative nature of the game and the fact that Rogue failing to steal all of someone's power can be explained in all sorts of ways that make sense. That makes me feel better about not using any mechanism to make the power more effective at all.

SO - I'll post her again later, when I have time to make the changes, but know that it'll be sans the AP. :)

Anyway, I really appreciate this sort of feedback, so thanks again, Dustland. Please keep it coming! :)

Best,

Notes: Okay, guys - I have a few questions and musings. As always, I'd appreciate your feedback.

On Quicksilver: I gave him Element Control (Wind) to simulate his ability to make whirlwinds and tornados. What do you guys think? Should a speedster be able to use his Super Speed to do this, without having to purchase Element Control (Wind)? The more I think on it, the more I answer this question in the affirmative.

On Rogue: I think I need to rework her cost. Currently, the linked powers are not getting the benefit of the Touch Attack, Must Touch Skin, Always On Complications. I think they should. Do you guys agree?

Scarlet Witch: What do you think of the way I modeled her Hex Power? I think I should actually use the words Hex Power somewhere (rather than Entropy Control), but I think the mechanics of what I put together will work rather well, thanks to the nature of powers in Supers!. Still, statting her up got me thinking. Does Supers! need a broader Control power? Right now we have Control Energy and Control Element. I used Control Energy to work up Control Entropy, but what would you do with someone who can, say, Control Machines? Do we count that as an Element and be done with it, or is it worth coming up with something to cover that unique power? (Actually, thinking as I write here, I guess Plant Powers would be a good template for a Control Machines power.)

Shadowcat: My big question here is her ability to disrupt machines as she phases through them. Does my build work? Could it be done better?

Anyway, thanks in advance!

Cheers!
