I've got tons of material for Warhammer fantasy and want to start a weekly or biweekly game using Fantasy Grounds II (and possibly Skype for voice communications). I'm an experienced GM, but new-ish to Fantasy Grounds and online play. For futher information see here (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13070). For screenshots of what Fantasy Grounds looks like during play, see here (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/screenshots/).

For those unfamiliar with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Wikipedia has a good write-up (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy_Roleplay).

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay shares the same Germanic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_mythology), doom-laden background as the Warhammer Fantasy Battle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy_Battle) (WFB) wargame (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wargaming) from which it originates. Since it is a game devoted to individual characters rather than to entire armies, WFRP depicts the setting in much closer detail than its wargame counterpart. This change of focus also transforms WFRP into a more grim and perilous game than WFB.
The primary setting of WFRP is the Empire, a region of the Old World (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_World_(Warhammer)) based loosely on the Holy Roman Empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Roman_Empire), with a number of baronies, counties and dukedoms fashioned after the fiefs of elector counts and dukes. Other prominent regions include Bretonnia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bretonnia), based on medieval France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_France) with strong Arthurian mythology themes; Kislev (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kislev_(Warhammer)), based on medieval Poland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Poland_(966%E2%80%931385)) and Imperial Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Russia); and the Wasteland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasteland_(Warhammer)), whose sole city of Marienburg is based on the Low Countries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_Countries). Other lands not explored as thoroughly but still frequently mentioned include the fragmented lands of Estalia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estalia) and Tilea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilea), fashioned after Spain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spain) and the city-states of Renaissance Italy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy) respectively, and Araby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araby), a mixture of Arabic Caliphate and Persia. Other lands with real-life analogies include Cathay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathay_(Warhammer)) (China), Ind (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdoms_of_Ind) (India), Naggaroth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naggaroth) (northern North America), Ulthuan (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ulthuan&action=edit&redlink=1) (Atlantis), Lustria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lustria) (Mesoamerica), Norsca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norsca) (Scandinavia) and the island of Albion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albion_(Warhammer)) (British Isles); however, very little official information has been released for these locales.
While the setting of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay shares traits, such as the existence of elves and goblins, with other popular fantasy settings, it is chronologically slightly later than that of most fantasy games close to the early Renaissance era in terms of technology and society. Firearms are readily available, though expensive and unreliable, and a growing mercantile middle class challenges the supremacy of the nobility.
One of the most identifiable features of the Warhammer setting is Chaos. While the forces of Chaos in Warhammer Fantasy Battle are depicted primarily in the form of marauding dark knights and beastmen, Chaos in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is an insidious force gnawing at the fabric of society. Secret cults abound among all strata of society, seeking to overthrow the social order or to further their own power. Mutants lurk in the forests outside the great cities, while the Skaven (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skaven) (a race of rats) tunnel beneath them.
Magic is widely feared and reviled, and not without reason. Magic is derived from and thus corrupted by Chaos, and its practitioners tread a fine line between death or corruption and relative safety.

1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)? Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd edition with supplemental fan material
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)? Grim & gritty fantasy setting (stock for WFRP)
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many? 2-8. Alternates and replacements wanted as well.
4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)? VTT-Fantasy Grounds II
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)? Beginning level
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with? Per chargen
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes? All standard careers allowed; fan created must be approved
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species? Allowed: All standard - Human, dwarf, elf, & halfling
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points? Per Chargen.
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so? Not really
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it? PC can change careers whenever they want to, if the meet the requirements/experience.
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them? Fantasy Grounds II has its own die roller; players will be responsible for theirs, but sometimes the result will be hidden from them.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules. Not at this time.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)? Player's choice; those not familiar with the setting don't have to.
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above? A good mix of all, with more reliance to RP.
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters? All standard books should be allowed (if I have a problem I'll take it up with you), everything else needs to be approved first.

I'd love to have a few more people, and I will accept people to the party a little tardy, but I'm looking for a 9/8/10 start date.

I'm definately interested in a WFRP game :). LOVE the WFRP setting! Just curious how many players you have so far? I may have missed it in the reading, but do you want us rolling or picking our starting career?

Fersboo

Hi Raige,

So far I have one and I'm looking for 1 more before I start. I'm a little easy on rolling, I'll let you make two rolls and choose, or make one roll and choose that career or one of the adjacent ones or my last option is to let someone choose their career (for non-munchkin purposes) but when that character dies, the next is totally random.

I'm new to Fantasy Grounds II and I am a little rusty GM-ing, so I'm asking a little patience until I get back up to speed. Send me an email if your interested in doing chargen one night this week.

We might have two players ready to go on Sept 8th @ 9pm EST. I'd be more than happy to bring new players (both to Fantasy Grounds or Warhammer or both) on even after we start.

I've got version 2.6.5 (unregistered atm). Join game is available, and it says there's an update available but it goes through the whole update process and does... nothing more that I can tell.

That is alright; it probably means that the download is the most recent version. I'll log on the server around 8:30 pm. It may take awhile for you to connect and update to my server so attempt early. If you run into problems, send me a pm or you can voice msg me at Skype, my handle is John_aka_Fersboo

I'm actually finding myself considering trying this game out for three reasons:

1) I am a hard-core WFRP fan.
2) I'd like to learn the Fantasy Grounds program. What better way to learn it.
3) I asked to play in another online star wars game recently, but the DM has yet to respond to my emails. I'm assuming it was canceled. No worries; no hard feelings; it happens sometimes.

So what is the current update on this Fantasy Grounds WFRP game? Either post or email me with more details, thanx.

PM sent. I'm sitting in the chat room for now. I've got room for you. My first session is tonight @ 9pm EST. I'd be fine if you wanted to jump in tonight and do chargen while the rest of the party starts out, or we could do chargen over the weekend and you can start with session 2.

I'm new to WFRP,but ofcourse I have all the books, I'd like to join you if possible. Have played D&D 3.5,but Warhammer is my true love. I've tried running games in a game called Second Life but ...women want to shop other than paper it. Get with me if you need someone willing to learn and be there through it all.

We're starting to fill up fast. We had 3 for the first session and there is a fourth character made for someone who couldn't make the first session. There has been some interest and we may fill up the remaining slot quickly. I won't mind expanding the party to 8 or 10, but I'm not really sure how the program will handle that many people. I'm trying to find out why we had a few crashes during the first session, and I'm hoping they don't say it was the number of players connected (we play with 6 members in my Sunday night 4E game and usually don't have issues).

BTW, I love that signature Hearse.

If you want to play, go to the Fantasy Grounds site and sign up for my game (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/calendar/?id=520). It seems that we are running into problems for Wednesdays and may have to move the game to another night and I'd like to have everyone voting for when to play at the same place.

Also, you need to schedule time to do character generation with me also.

Hi! Are you guys still looking for more players/alternates? I love Warhammer as well, and I was toying with the idea of running a game for my friends, but it would be great to be able to play it first with another group and get really comfortable with the game and the rules. I can probably play pretty consistently, however being newly married and having bought a house this year, the gaming gets moved down on the priority pole from time to time. I also have another friend that may be interested as well. Let me know, and thanks again for running it!

I'm still interested. I have another friend that loves Warhammer that may be interested in joining as well. I'll look into the software and see what's what, and I'll let you know as soon as I have that squared away. (We're also thinking about starting our own group so we're looking into getting a package license deal going with other friends...)

Fersboo

Yes, please take a look at the software. It really is worth it, dice roller, chat program, game encyclopedia (sort of) and it can handle maps and images as well. I've been using it for about 4 months now as a player and really like it.

Hey John,
I bought the lite license, updated it fully to 2.71 and I tried downloading the WFRP2 ruleset and installing it, but every time I load up fantasy grounds, there is nothing there for Warhammer....though I could take a look at char gen and see what it's like. Any suggestions?

vcabilla
10-08-2010, 08:30 AM
Ok, all set, wasn't able to install the Warhammer ruleset. Spoke to my friend, and he may be available for Wednesday as well. Are you going to be online tonight for chargen?

Fersboo
10-08-2010, 08:33 AM
Even though you downloaded the ruleset, or skin, the actual rules are in modules. Due to copyright infringement issues, you either need to create the modules yourself or you could convince the author of the ruleset that you own the materials and he will give you access to the remaining files. If you choose the latter option, there is a Yahoo! Group that you need to join to gain access to said files. See here (http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/fgvtt/).

Chargen is handled in the same way as presented in the core book, with my own set of preferences added in, as described either early in this thread or the thread over at Fantasy Grounds, here (http://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13070).
