Campaign: Death is only the Beginning
System: DD3.5
Starting level: 5

Starting Classes: Normal
Races: Normal for Faerun

This campaign revolves around characters that are already dead and didn't make it through the pearly gates (or their equivalent) for a reason of your own devising. Kelemvor, a God of the Dead and the Law of the “Just Death” has singled your characters out because your deaths were unjust and due to certain rules about his domain and his role, he has to give you the opportunity to redeem yourselves.

You, the player, will devise a suitably difficult task you will have to perform for your death to be redeemed and your life returned.

That does not mean that he will allow you to rise as undead, for Kelemvor HATES undead and destroys them at every opportunity. No, he will offer you one of two options: 1) To assume the body of one who's spirit has fled in order to set right your wrongs OR 2) To rise as an Undying, a special form of creature that is technically neither dead nor alive, crafted from the earth of a grave and the bones of your corpse and into which is poured some of Kelemvor's power to grant it the semblance of life. You will be given a timeframe to accomplish your redemption and if you fail, the death become permanent and you will remain in the Dark until you have expatiated your sins normally, though now tormented with the fact that you were given the chance and you failed.

Neither of these forms are immortal and clearly, both can be killed.

Any actions you take while attempting your redemption can lead to more time in the dark if you fail or cancel the “unjust” ruling in your own death, depending on circumstances. You will also be given three Taboos, things you must not do, lest you immediately fall back into the Darkness and your chance be lost.

When you are returned to the mortal world, you will have to find your own way to accomplish your goals, though you can assist one another.

I decided to dust this campaign off and try for a restart with a new group. Anybody down?

Great concept! Could you give me more information about when it would be starting, when the group would be meeting, etc. I haven't role played in years but am looking to get back into it. Let me know what information you need from me.

I'm happy to anser all of your questions, in order even! :)

Ambrose: For new players I need you to create a character background, complete with a history of some kind with important people, the incident of their unjust death and what made it "unjust". This can be accussed of a crime they didn't commit, killed by mistake in a bad situation, murdered in a crime, assassinated for reasons not under your control as well as other more imaginative options. The characters are 5th level so they've been around a bit and have completed whatever Journeyman in their class and may even have entered into a "Prestige Position".

Vegidolphin: I plan to start play within 30 days and we would play on weekends, Saturday or Sunday. As far as more information, see my response to Ambrose.

Dixon West: Gotcha and we're good.

Please email me at xawakening@yahoo.com if you have any questions. I'm looking for 2-3 more players optimally but I have an existing gaming group I'm also offering this to so we might have some people I know and some I don't. I'm laid back. Gear will be pretty low-magic and rely more on skills and talents and feats and less of magical items. I also have some interesting new feats and options for the "not quite dead" character...
