Heyas folks,

With the book's first draft nearing completion, it is time for me to post up a thread looking for players for a play test campaign of the rules. I will be using the chat feature on this forum to run the game. Due to the book being written specifically for Hero System 6th Edition that will be the game system I will be using. Please use this thread to sign up for the game. Upon acceptance I would like for you to PM me your email address so I can send you the appropriate documentation.

Current Players:

Farcaster: Bounty Hunter/Netrunner
MisterAdam: Corporate Police
Ashene: Media Star (Singer)
Sneaksta: Corporate Police/Forensics Investigator
Seifer: Bounty Hunter/Kabbalist

Campaign Overview:

The game will be done in the style of Mad Max where the PCs are operating in the Atlantic Northeast States that has marauders, brigands, and other lowlife scum controlling everything outside of the major cities. The PCs can use any of the profession templates, including the ones for magick. However, law enforcement and/or vehicle combat specialists are preferred for one fourth of the party. Characters will be all normals, so no superheroes will be allowed. One of the things that characters must consider is the owning of a vehicle being a priority with vehicle weapons not so much. The game will center around the themes of dealing with these lowlifes and restoring law and order to the areas outside of the major cities.

Requirements:

I have eight basic tenets that I would like players to adhere to because this is going to be a time consuming and enjoyable process.

1. Must be willing to participate in giving feedback and constructive criticism of the book on the play test forums that are set up on D-3 Games (http://d-3games.com/forum/). This means that you will have to sign up over on D-3 Games's forum (http://d-3games.com/forum/) and let me know your username there, so I can have Jason give you Playtester status. This will grant you access to the Playtester section of the forums.

2. Must be willing to not divulge the contents of the play test copy of the book nor give it out to anyone outside of the group. This is because every member of the play test team will be given a copy of the book to read through and find problems with the rules and/or other things wrong in the book. By agreeing to join the group you will be agreeing to following a Non-disclosure Agreement and a copy of said agreement will be emailed to you.

3. Be on time for every session with extraordinary circumstances for missing a session or two allowed with prior warning. I want players to understand that this is a commitment to improve a book currently undergoing the process of publication. This is a heavy responsibility and shouldn't be taken lightly as 4-5 other people are depending upon you to be there ready to play. On top of this I expect the sessions to be a lot of fun with character interactions. If you don't find something fun with the storyline or how I handle the game feel free to speak your mind, so I can adjust my style to your wants.

4. Be willing to learn a new rules system, but ownership of the Hero System 6th Edition Volumes not necessary. It is encouraged for players to at least try to purchase a copy of Volume 1 and Hero Designer for the creation of characters. If you would like to try out the Hero System without purchasing the book and character designer that is fine. I am willing to take the time to teach the system to players who have never played it.

5. Players that wish to sign up must have a clear character conception of the character they would like to play. Part of this is how they already know the other characters in the group to ensure proper party integration with little to no introductory story of bringing the party together for the first time. In order to accomplish this I will require a small paragraph describing the character including goals and motivations. This goes hand-in-hand with point 4 since I will be the one creating your character if you do not wish to invest the time and money in purchasing the players guide and character creation software. By knowing what type of character you want to play I can easily write up the character to your specifications.

6. Each session will start at 8 PM Central Standard Time on Saturdays and will usually last 3 hours. The game sessions can go longer than that if the players are willing to do so.

7. Must be willing to have fun and participate in a cooperative story. I work off of what you bring to the table from your character.

8. Players that are not serious nor able to commit these responsibilities need not apply. Please do not waste my time or yours if you're not willing to show up for the games on time. This is common courtesy that should be extended when you commit to something like this because this affects everyone that is committed to the game.

Those that do participate in the play test and give excellent feedback for the book will be listed in the book as playtesters. There may be additional things given to those that really give it their all in play testing and posting excellent feedback. One final thing about being a playtester is that if you do an excellent job you will be called for play testing of future books from D-3 Games.

EDIT: We switched to voice chat on 10/31/2009 to make the game go faster and smoother. The voice chat software we're using is GSC (http://getgsc.com). Upon starting the program click on the Voice tab and click on the Add tab. You will be searching for Inceptum Terminus as the name of the server. The way the server is configured only registered users to the server have voice permissions. In this case it is the members of the group that are currently involved in the playtest.

This is quite intriguing, and I would love to learn more about this system. As I said in chat, I would require help in creating a character. Though I will do my best to learn quickly as I go along. I am looking forward to this. ^^

*edited for spelling*

It's not a problem and I enjoy teaching people how to play Hero System. :) I added your name to the list.

I'd be interested in playing. As I mentioned before, I'll need help with character creation, though, as I don't have Hero System. I'm still working out what kind of character I want to play, though I'm tentatively looking at law enforcement.

Hey Richard,

Just wanted to say Good Luck and Good Gaming to you and your Playtesters. As I see that you will be doing this on Saturdays, that would definately keep me from being able to be there consistantly, due to my tabletop group meets on Saturdays. If possible, I will slip in and observe some of the sessions on the days that our group isn't meeting.

Two slots have opened up in the playtest campaign, but the characters that are pregenerated have to be used. One is a regular police officer and the other is a forensics investigator/police officer. I also updated the Eight Tenets governing the playtest game.

D-3 artist misteradam will be taking the regular police officer slot.

If you've done all of the preliminary steps to get into the playtest I can get you started right away. :) Please PM your email address. I'll make a character that will fit within the party.

@Sneaksta: You're in the playtest.

Alrighty then, lets see if Richard gets to have the first play test session with the new additions. Please, if any of the Playtesters find that they will not be able to be on for the session, be sure to let Richard know. I was on here last Saturday, and there were several people that didn't show up in the Chat and did not let Richard know that they wouldn't be there. This is not just a regular game that you Playtesters are in, but actually part of the process of making this game. It is very important that Richard have people that can be there. I myself would have volunteered, but my tabletop game group meets on Saturdays, and that wouldn't be fair to Richard and the other Playtesters.

Great game everyone and I thank all of the current playtesters for showing up tonight. :) I'd recommend that in the future that you watch out for falling flight attendants.

The Inceptum Terminus: Chronicles of the New Confederation first draft playtest is over for my group and I can't wait to see the reviews from my playtesters. With the information they provide I can fine tune the book for the second draft. I appreciate all of the people involved in the playtest and I thank you.

Please check the Campaign Invitations forum in the future for a new listing for the second draft playtest.

I was very fortunate to be a part of this and I had an amazing experience with the playtest group. Unfortunately there has been lack of fulfilling duties as being part of the playtest, giving Richard the feedback he deserves. I'm planning on posting my thoughts within the next day or two.

Those players who haven't been as diligent in keeping their commitment owe Richard an apology for not fulfilling their duties thus far.

It was an excellent experience and I hope to participate in future games.

I agree with Ash, as Richard knows, I too am working on my review, and plan to have it posted A.S.A.P.

I liked the play test and look forward to participating in other games as well.

Since everyone deserves to know how the adventure would have ended I'm going to post it up.

Escape to New Berlin

The session starts with the media star and 2 corporate police flying between New Berlin and Chesapeake, Atlantic Northeast States. While in flight the aircraft is shot down by unknown individuals and the bounty hunter PCs are contacted by Frau Schultz to retrieve the other players. Amid the wreckage the two groups meet up and come under fire from what appears to be marauders. A perception check that suceeds by at least 4 will reveal a clue that the marauders are targeting Melody only while the other rounds were impacting to force the other players heads down. Failure means the entire group believes that the marauders were attacking them all. The characters will receive clues over the course of making their way to New Berlin that the marauders responsible are led by "One Eyed" Paulina Rodriguez. Paulina is the major chieftain in the area around DC and leads a sizeable marauder force of about 1500 people. If the players confront Paulina they will find out that she was set up and she doesn't know who did it.

A successful netrun into ANS cyberspace will reveal clues that the attacks were coordinated by Dai-HK, but the reason for it isn't given. The information is stored in one of the local military force's mainframe. The only name given is a mysterious Gunther. Any further attempts to figure out who this is will result in security guardians coming down hard onto the intruders with the intent to kill them. The only way to retrieve the data is from accessing the computer in real space, but the two police are classified as dead along with Melody. If the players decide to infiltrate the local base they must sneak in or they will be shot on sight. The garrison of the base is comrpised of 1 battalion of infantry, 2 companies of armor, and a company of attack helos with a fighter squadron for additional support. If they don't go to the base they can obtain the information by infiltrating the headquarters of Dai-HK in New Berlin or the bounty hunters can fulfill the contract by meeting with Frau Schultz.

At the meeting with Frau Schultz, the group will find themselves betrayed and face a squad of Dai-HK troops that initiates a firefight. If the group suceeds in capturing Frau Schultz they will gain the name of the person behind the attempted, but not the reasons. Schultz will become uncooperative and will detonate a small bomb that she has hidden inside of her body. Forensic evidence will show where Frau Schultz was working at a small office at a PR firm owned by Dai-HK.

Here is just a reminder that on the D3 Games Inceptum Terminus Playtest forum there is a thread titled D3 Playtest Guidelines. In the thread there are specific questions that I asked that you can use as a basis to start your feedback. I appreciate all of the players that were involved in the playtest. :)

Sorry I am not quicker to the punch, Richard. I am currently re reading your book to solidify the ideas in my head. I am pretty scatterbrained at the moment, and my online presence is almost nil during the week, as I am juggling 18 credits and a wife+kids... LOL

I will work it in this weekend and hopefully have a well articulated and thought out review/commentary in place sometime in the late monday pm, early tuesday am.

Im slow, but will get it done.
