Besides Middle Earth (thanks again, Tolkien), some of my favorite fantasy inspiration comes from video games. Goldmen (gold golems) from Dragon Warrior, hidden airships from Final Fantasy I, health-restoring faeries from Zelda (did Link eat them, or did they just disappear?) are all examples.

Have any video game ideas made it into your games? What are some of your favorites (that I should be stealing)? :typing:

I always liked the dragoon class from final fantasy.

I thought the dragoon was great too...until I realized how hard it would be to spring into the air and hope your target was in the right place when you hit the ground.

Maybe it requires flying armor?

Anyway...what's cooler than a little lady who cracks whips are summons ungodly powerful magical creatures?

I'm a huge Fire Emblem player, and different bits from all the games sometimes find they're way into my games. Mostly items and and fluff. When one of our characters gets a crit I like to play it up and say "Picture the Mercenary from Fire Emblem 7 getting a crit, you just did that."

Also, one of the Rogues right now has a Killing Edge. +1 short sword with an 18-20 critical threat range with a X3 Crit.

like I said, just little bits, nothing rule changing.

Dragon Warrior 4 won't let me control my cohorts - I have to give them a general order: normal, offensive, defensive, etc. Man, if only PCs were that easy to get in line...

I actually made a Dragoon prestige class for one of my games, though it was based more of the Dragoons from Legend of Dragoon than from Final Fantasy, but it turned out to be extremely powerful and I limited it to an NPC class only. Due to their power, I used them as an interplaner mercenary group that drew their power from the hearts of Dragons (thus the name).

Basically, they were masters of charging and polearms and got abilities that allowed them a longer reach with their spears, spring attack charges, multi-hit charges, and eventually wings, though only one Dragoon at a time was allowed to hold the final level that granted wings.

They were great niche fighters, extremely powerful if allowed their charges, but rather weak if denied them. I still have all the stats if you'd like to see them.

Ah, no. I guess I must be the only gamer in the world that does not play video games.

my ideas mainly come from books like tolkein and frank herbert (dune) and many others. some do come from video games but mostly are just the concepts in general or just bit pieces(specific items within book or game)

So no one's tried using Espers?

(FFIII, carry one around long enough and you get inherent spellcasting ability)
