You can't check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

The task is to build a Hotel (Compound) for the richest people in the world to survive several types of "End of the World Scenarios", for example:
1) Nuclear Holocaust
2) Solar Storm
3) Zombie-Mutant Attack
etc.

But, ideally a reference to current technology has to be made..

Let's say "Radiation Proof Clothes" (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2478465.stm)

:)

This compound orbits no body, is launched and untraceable, moves and is powered by solar and gravity. People are not stored, but their digital sleeves are - who needs bodies in end of the world - go into space and hope for the future to unravel the digital version of yourself (or the brain - if you have to go organic) and give you a new body.

Three different problems - but there are solutions that could work against all 3

First of all, you want some discretion. It's no point building this thing if it just becomes a target, so secrecy and location are both vital

I'd suggest using a super-tanker.

1. Replace the engine with a nuclear power plant
2. Convert the cargo areas into luxurious accommodation and lots of food storage
3. Install the capacity to harvest fish and plankton (with as much recycling capability as possible)

TACTICS
Nuclear War: Avoid any targets worth nuking - just sail away
Solar Storm: Find a convenient fjord that has mountains on each side - with luck you should be able to dock the ship in the shadow of a mountain until the storm is over
Zombies: Can they swim? Can they swim as fast as the supertanker can move?

You've got some really good tactical ideas, but as far as zombies swimming, I wouldn't be to worried about them swimming, it's whether they can float or reach an accessible area to board the ship.

If I remember correctly most super tankers are hard to get into if there's no gang plank in place that goes down to the water.

So a super tanker is a really good idea.

Might I refer you to this story "Internal Damnation (http://ussathena.iwarp.com/episodes/epis4t.htm)". You might find it interesting.
