View Full Version : Planescape PbP: Dark of the Day

I love nothing more than to put my game in the hands of the players and let them do with it as they will. In 2004, I started a tabletop AD&D 2e Planescape chronicle; before the stories were concluded, I moved away from my old gaming group. Not wanting it to simply die off, I took the medium to play-by-post in 2005, and have been running it since then.

We're at a bit of a lag right now, as a few of the players have disappeared and I settle into a new job, and so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do some recruiting.

The plot* we're currently on is the Deva Spark, briefly touched on below. For those already familiar with it, I'm throwing in a few new twists and turns, as well as the chance to experience it from a whole new angle.

A wounded celestial, bereft of his angelic essence, lays dying in the care of his mortal charges...

...while a deranged, demonic beast bearing the halo wreaks havoc in an undefended corner of the heavens.

The question is, where do you fit in?

This ongoing Planescape chronicle needs some new blood! News of these unprecedented events is traveling fast throughout the City of Doors, and many high-ups would give anything to tip the scales and see these events play out in their favor.

Interested players should create original characters (this is not a fandom game). No knowledge of the setting is necessary -- those who are unfamiliar should come up with a character from one of the following races:

Aasimar (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=races&action=display&thread=909) -- descendant of a celestial being
Bariaur (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=races&action=display&thread=910) -- centaur-like being blending features of human and ram
Genasi (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=races&action=display&thread=911) -- descendant of an elemental being
Human (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=races&action=display&thread=917)
Tiefling (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=races&action=display&thread=914) -- descendant of a fiendish being

Even more important than race is the choice of faction: organizations centered around a given philosophy.

A task force has been assembled by the Athar (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=72), the Believers of the Source (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=71), and the Transcendent Order (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=59); these three factions hope to investigate and gain an understanding of these events as they unfold. The Dustmen (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=68) and the Society of Sensation (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=60) will surely want to be in the know, and may send investigators or spies. As others get involved, factioneers from the Doomguard (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=69), the Revolutionary League (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=62), or the Xaositects (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=58) might want to involve themselves just to create some chaos and mayhem. Mercenaries from the Free League (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=65) might be hired by unrelated parties to interfere with someone's efforts or gather information. And who's to say someone from the Fated (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=67) or the Sign of One (http://darkoftheday.proboards58.com/index.cgi?board=factions&action=display&thread=61) isn't selfish enough to want the wayward celestial essence for himself?

If you're interested, stop by the board and drop me a PM, I'd love to have you!

*This plot is only one of several; I have a number of small story arcs going on simultaneously. We could really use a planar botanist for a plot about an unknown plant that could be the all-cure for the entire multiverse. Also, there's an abyssal cult out there looking for unsuspecting female tieflings of tanar'ri ancestry (the one we had was played by one of said disappearing players).
