A while back my group and I were sitting down to play a new game, and our DM brought out this book.

It was rules for a kind of pre-game, wherein the players and the DM built a homebrew campaign world turn by turn. You started out with a blank map, and went around the table, and built your campaign world. There were versions where you took on the role of a God or Goddess of this world, or just straight up made it.

The problem is, I cannot remember the name.

Can anyone help me?

Burning Empires maybe?

Not it. 8\

This was a small, almost a booklet, I tried asking my GM but she never wrote me back. [much fist-shaking ensues]

That sounds very cool, please post back with the info if you find out elsewhere.

Hmmm... That DOES sound really cool. Trying Google-fu - is it either of these?

Nope. Though all of those look cool, they are not it. I got a hold of my old DM, and got a link to an apparently free .pdf version which can be found here:

I've never tried it, but I plan on trying it at my earliest opportunity.

Another pretty cool "RPG" that you can play anytime with friends is the Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Von Munchhausen. Basically you just try to outdo each other by telling the most outlandish stories you can think of i.e. "That reminds me of the time I had tea with the Grand Poobah on the summit of Mt. Everest..." etc. etc. and whoever loses has to get the next round of drinks. The other storytellers vote on who failed.

Glad you found the site and were able to post it. Neat way to get other players involved in creating the world before they game in it. the world becomes a group effort. Nice touch.

It looks like a lot of fun to me, but I adore world building.

If anyone tries it, let me know how it works?

This is a very neat idea! We are starting a new campaign using my FUDGE-based S&S RPG. I think this would be a great way to kick things off! I'll run it by the group and if we give it a go, I'll be sure to post our collective feedback! :)

Looks, interesting. You should see if you can get some people together and do it online. Try out the new OP thingy.

OP = Obsidian Portal?

I was thinking about trying it out online. The only problem I foresee is with the map. I guess you could scan and upload it after every turn?

or use gametable (http://gametable.mornproductions.com) and do it all real time. ^^ chat included. even outputs a log for you. =D

Just downloaded GameTable and played with it for a little while. I think it would work pretty well for the "game," then you can have the artist of your group take the rough (and it will be) map and re-draw it. Very cool.

This solution was found halfway through the first page, though I thank you for bringing it back up; I might have missed it otherwise. Pretty nice system might have to try sometime.

So my lack of reading comprehension last night is somewhat embarrassing. Oops.

That's a great idea, does any one know of any game worlds that have been made with it?

Wow, this is neat. If anybody is going to run something like this, I'd like to give it a try. PM me.

I brought it to my group, along with a couple of other options, and one of those other options narrowly beat this out. So, maybe some rainy bored day I'll get the wild hair to run it with a group of folks from around here. But for now, I'm still waiting to see if anyone tries it.

REally good - we both would like to play it again now that we know how the system works. It works alot better as a "team" as opposed to opponents. It's very interesting that way. We played off one another topping each others creations instead of trying to destroy - we created! It was fun!

The game you are looking for is the "In a Wicked Age" game.
