For me, i have all the dead tree stuff(both editions), but i can definitely see the advantages of having the material on pdf. Besides, hopefully, magazines like WARPSTONE will release all their magazines on pdf. I have every one so far but 1, 2, & 4. Anyone have them, btw? I got some great items i'm willing to have torn my grasp for them.

So, fellow WFRP/WHFRP FANatics, what are your thoughts?

What share you?

I can't say that I'm a fanatic, as I've never played it. But you have made it sound so interesting that I may have to check out the pdfs.

Thank ye kindly.

I completely agree with Tam on this one. Thanks Thoth

And it doesn't hurt that I really enjoy being a participant in your polls.

This is the first I've heard of it and now i MUST check it out!

I saw this! I have the hardcovers of these, so I think I will pass on the PDF's for now. I always viewed Warhammer as an advanced fantasy rollplaying game. After playing D&D for so long, I needed something better and this was it!

$25 ain't bad. I had 1e Warhammer back in the day, though I never played it. I may check it out, I like pdfs (I know, I'm a heretic, burn me). Cheaper and more conveniently stored for something you just feel like checking out. These days I really only buy dead trees if I've already checked it out electronically and think I'll make a lot of use of it, and/or if I find the dead tree for cheap on Ebay.

It's quite cool. WFRP is my favorite game ATM and although I prefer hard copies of books, hopefully this new avenue will stir up new interest and perhaps see some reprints of old material too. Win win.

Are you playing WFRP at the moment?? We are looking to get an online game going. I am hoping it comes together.

That makes me wish I had a reliable PC but my laptop is near death. Should I solve that problem I've always wanted to try online gaming.

Buy one of those $199.00 computers. You can always attach it to your larger monitor, or even your TV--providing it is high def or plasma.

Excellent news indeed. Even though Fantasy Flight Games has acquired the rights from Black Industries, giving new life to the game, the materials are still hard to find; leaving many players to get their fix from amazon.com, or ordering from chain bookstores...lets hope this boosts interest in the game...

My co-worker has a practically new laptop for sale. I'm just waiting to check it out first.

If not my father has a Best Buy card he loves to use so I may talk him into helping me out with something cheap.

I wonder if the pdf release has anything to do with this (http://www.graham-mcneill.com/gmblog/PermaLink,guid,24ed7843-8f78-48b7-a2cc-507afc907eab.aspx):

WFRP 3
A coupe of weeks ago, our regular roleplaying group was privileged enough to playtest 3rd Edition Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. The guys from Fantasy Flight Games were over at Games Workshop HQ, and Jay Little very kindly did a show and tell for us over at Alessio Cavatore’s house, where we saw how much the game has changed from its previous incarnation. Our gaming group has been going for some time and we were all interested to see what was new with WFRP, since we’d playtested the previous edition also. It was in interesting evening, and the game was very different to anything I’ve played before, with a lot of table space taken up by character sheets, action and ability cards, dice etc. It felt like a strange hybrid of board game and roleplaying game at first, but once the notions of the new mechanics took hold, it felt very natural. Likewise, the new dice pool system felt odd at first, but once we’d rolled a few dice it immediately became very intuitive, which is surely the holy grail of any roleplaying system.

By the time we’d despatched the goblins and rescued the coachman, we didn’t have much time left to play out the more interpersonal encounters of the intro game, but we’d already gotten our heads around the system and were already looking to develop our characters – which is a good sign in any playtest. Overall, I really liked the changes to the game, and it makes a nice change from sitting with my Players Handbook and a grubby character sheet. I’m liking what Jay has done with the game, and there’s a clear desire to make it fit properly with the Warhammer World, where a lot of the previous edition’s books, with the best will in the world, just didn’t.

Another edition is in the works, you say? Whoa! I've already picked up everything the first two editions sold, now i guess i will be doing this again. Any chance you came across a tentative release date for WFRP3, Harwel?

I have no earthly clue. All I know is that blog excerpt, and a gazillion post thread spurred by it on RPG.net that was pure speculation and no small bit of whining. If you read the quote I posted, you know as much as I do.

Well, as it is a blog post by a GDW employee (and AFAIK GDW still owns Warhammer and FFG is their licensee), I would lend it a bit more credence than the average "WORDZ ON TEH INTARWEBZ" rumor. ;)

As my son gets older I expect to play this sooner and sooner. I collect figs but he collects Warhammer figs and especially the chaos type...
...it is only a matter of time...
Guess I better buy a book - any recommendations?

Sure, pick up the version 2 core book, Empire Bestiary, Realms Of Sorcery,Tome of Corruption ,WFRP Companion, and Tome of Salvation. Anything else is just a plus. How old is your boy anyway?

Mikes suggestion is a good one. Just know that they are no longer supporting WFRP2E for WFRP3E will be released in October. Something to think about.

Heck, even 1st edition is great. I guess it's really just a matter of where you want to go with it. Sure 2E will get a bit cheaper, and 1E will get even more expensive, but with any of the 3 editions, you wont be disappointed. Yep, i am hopeful with 3E. Nope, i haven't seen it yet.

It shows promise, but who knows. When released, you can count on a review from me.

More information can be found here, including some videos explaining many of the changes: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=93&enmi=Warhammer

I played Warhammer 40,000 but not the fantasy Warhammer.
What's the review saying about the differences?

IMHO
WFRP 3e is either going to be the first time Warhammer starts taking a sizable chunk out of the D&D monster or a disaster that everyone tries to forget never hapend.

Sorry - I'm lost...

Its a HUGE change in the way things work mechanically. Using odd custom dice with lots of shiny pieces. It reminds me alot of Arkham Horror (the board game). This could be good or bad, as its more of a hybred between roleplaying and a board game it may attract alot of new people to the game who dont play rpgs, however it runs the risk of roleplayers scoffing at the shiny bits and going off to play something else.

They may for the first time really compete with D&D though. Especially if they put it in the GW stores. Both D&D4e and WFRP3 are targeting a similar group of young people. We'll see who wins...

I'm glad they are releasing these in PDF as the dead tree version's prices are getting jacked up pretty high all over the place. I'm having a hard time finding a paper Tome of Salvation anywhere

I think I'll stick with WFRP 2e for now. If I hear good things about 3e I'll probably end up picking it up. It has a lot to live up to, though. 2e is my favorite system.
