This thread is specific to Ravenloft PBP that will be hosting an ongoing adventure within that campaign setting...the rules will be as follows below and can be changed with the majority concent of those participating...

I. Those interested in participation need to contact Baron_Samedi, or other parties responsible for facilitating the game at that time by PM and submit a character concept including background, stats, and other personal ideas...the facilitator will then notify the interested parties of how and when the player will be able to enter the game. NOTE: some games may not have an opening for you immediately, but it will be the responsiblity of the DM to try to include you in any way possible as soon as possible...if there isn't an immediate opening for your character you will be put on a waiting list...you may also post to the 'Anyone....Anyone...' thread in Gardens of Stone for more information...

II. Characters are responsible for their own PC's and need to check their status in the PBP at the times indicated...If there is a problem or you need more time before posting...no problem! Just let the DM know...you need more time, or if you are going to be unable to post for an extended time let them know if you wish for them to act in your PC's stead...or if you wish to bow out completely...doing so will NOT exclude you from future participation...

III. All rules are subject to change pending majority decision...before any rules can be set in stone, they are subject to forum discussion in the 'Anyone....Anyone...' thread. Majority rules...in the event of a tie...the DM will vote to break the tie...

These are the first three and I believe most important rules here...any other rules will follow as needed...as you could guess the 'anyone? anyone?' thread will be used for OOC (out of character) chat and other things as they are decided upon...

MOST IMPORTANTLY....

Please DO NOT post to this thread unless you are actively participating in the Ravenloft PBP...ANY questions, comments or observations need to be made in the 'Anyone...Anyone...' thread at Gardens of Stone...just trying to keep things tidy and uncluttered...:D

I have some basic questions about the game:

1) Where do I sign up?
2) What times are you doing this...is there a time we all meet up to play or is it kind of open to a once a day post?
3) What system are we using?

Hey Tamerath, if you skip over to the Anyone, Anyone thread, you'll see we're trying to answer these questions.

This is the finalized rules-set for the Vaults of Silence PBP. All rules are subject to change with concensus from all players and the DM. If there are any questions there will be a forum set up for PBP questions and commentary...The game will be played using the Dungeons and Dragons d20 rules set 3.0/3.5 edition, also known as 3.x. Rules books recommended are the Players Handbook 3e/3.5 and the Ravenloft Campaign Setting put forth by Sword and Sorcery Studios.

I. Those interested in participation need to contact Baron_Samedi, or other parties responsible for facilitating the game at that time by PM and submit a character concept including background, stats, and other personal ideas...the facilitator will then notify the interested parties of how and when the player will be able to enter the game. NOTE: some games may not have an opening for you immediately, but it will be the responsiblity of the DM to try to include you in any way possible as soon as possible...if there isn't an immediate opening for your character you will be put on a waiting list...you may also post to the Comments and Questions for Vaults of Silence thread in Gardens of Stone for more information...

III. All rules are subject to change pending majority decision...before any rules can be set in stone, they are subject to forum discussion in the Comments and Questions thread. Majority rules...in the event of a tie...the DM will vote to break the tie...

IV. All persons who have discussed character concepts with the DM, must submit a character sheet via email no later than one week prior to entering the game. All characters must be approved by DM, and will be notified of approval before PC's can post...

V. Players are required to post at least every three days within the game...in character, of course...this doesn't mean to post random static in-thread...if there is no opportunity to post appropriately...be sure to send a PM to the DM and let them know that you checked in. If you are unable to post or need more time, again, let the DM know whats going on and if you need the DM to 'bump' your character or if you need to be released from the game for a certain amount of time...players who are released will not be penalized, and will be allowed to return as soon as they are ready and as soon as the game allows. Players who cannot post and do not give notice will be reminded to do so...if this becomes a habit, the DM will ask the player to step down until they can meet the criteria of the PBP.

VI. Dice rolls, when needed, will be prompted by the DM. Players will then respond by indicating how they will act; including all relevant bonuses and/or penalties...example...Player 1 is being confronted by an undead creature and the player is in a position to take initiative and strike first...the player will indicate that they will attack using their short sword, requiring a roll of d20 plus 2 for their strength modifier. The DM must inform the player of any and all bonuses and/or penalties before the player acts...failure to do so will result in automatic player success...The DM will roll a dice manually and inform the player of the results...any modifiers and/or penalties are subject to discussion OOC. However...once the dice roll is made, the roll is final. If it is decided that there was an error in modifier/penalty calculation, then the character automatically succeeds.

VII. Characters are encouraged to have discussions amongst themselves and play their characters as best as possible...Ravenloft isn't a setting based on combat...its about 75% roleplaying, 25% combat...character counts for more than fighting ability...any comments OOC can be made in your post by indicating OOC: blah...any ongoing OOC discussions need to be made in the Comments and Questions catagory...

VIII. Experience is rewarded for remaining in character, combat and skills success and even in-character conversation. Characters will be awarded XP during session intermissions. Players can update and improve the stats of their character during intermissions, but players must email the new and improved character sheets to the DM before play resumes. Intermissions will be posted by the DM and will be effective immediately until the DM states the intermission ends...usually one week or more...this is to ensure that no player burns out, and allows for new players to come in, or current players to bow out...

IX. Remember all participants are asked to maintain civility both in and out of the game...things happen, don't take it personally; after all, its just a game...Players are NOT ALLOWED TO ATTACK ONE ANOTHER!!! This is a major rule with me...If a brawl breaks out...subdual, non-letal damage is issued...once weapons are drawn...YOU HAVE HAD IT...you'll be surprised how quickly Orcus can pop out of a tankard of ale...

X. This is a first time event for most if not all participants...please take discrepancies and foul-ups in stride...this is all a work in progress...all recommendations are welcome in the Questions and Comments section...

Any questions, contact the DM...

ENJOY!!!

I try to do my best regarding Player information and Character information...i understand and applaud the research that goes into character creation, but i really frown upon metagaming...just because you may know something, doesn't mean your character does...

Player information: Teufeldorf lies in southern Barovia...it currently has no burgomaster and is governed by the captain of the guard, the stern Rebeka Ditrau. The Count himself executed the previous burgomaster, Shaithis Voarovna, in 753 for manipulating naive adventurers into slaying a local Vistana. Ditrau was thereafter handed temporary control of the town until Vosrovna's replacement could be found, but no such substitute has yet arrived. Ditrau is adamant about preserving law and order in Teufeldorf, but has none of a burgomaster's scheming self interest. She is plainly uncomfortable with her political duties and the village militia-men are displeased with sharing their space in the garrison with clerks and magistrates. The town is a strong religious community, with the Sentire of Barovia overseeing the Church of Ezra's efforts in the region from the Refuge of Quiet Diligence, while the Witches of Hala minister from the Hospice of the Three-Hundred Wounds. Unfortunately the town has a problem with beggars and pickpockets, burdening the religious communities.

Character information...

An unusually rainy winter and tepid spring have played havoc with this last years harvest, causing many of the local sharecroppers to cut down on their respective workforce...this is the focus of a great economic downturn in the region...the sharecroppers have no work...the traders have nothing to transport...the craftsmen can't find work because the farmers have less income...etc...many people are out of work, poor and hungry...and with winter coming, as it is currently November...things are going from bad to worse...many of the townfolk have been displaced; unable to afford lodging in the town proper. The citizen of Teufeldorf have demanded new leadership, in the form of a Burgomaster that has not been appointed in many years...Some seek to petition Count Strahd XI, others feel that free elections should be made...other less pragmatic individuals feel that they should take power from Ms. Ditrau. Although they are the minority, for most people dare not even think of speaking Strahd's name, let alone opposing his choice for pro-tem executor, they seem to be the most vocal...many of the townfolk have assembled in a would-be shanty town to the south-east of Teufeldorf in an area dubbed 'Neustadt'. These residents have formed their own council and local watch and are beginning to trade with themselves and other local settlements in a weakly based barter system, with promising results...
Fearing reprisals from the townsfolk and perhaps Lord Strahd, Ditrau is beginning to step up on the disciplinary tactics of the town watch...many arrests have been made...brutality is common...it seems that Teufeldorf is spinning out of control, but many fear that Strahd will step in to correct the situation...but promises of a new solution are beginning to blossom in the form of a new religious movement...whispered in dark corners and becoming wildly popular in Teufeldorf and Neustadt...the Guardians of the Dawn...

So there we go...that's what you'll be walking into...hope it helps with character creation...

if you have any questions, please let me know...and we'll be starting on July 5th...
