View Full Version : Unarmed attacks vs. droids

On multiple occasions in the movies (including the Clone Wars animated movie) we see organics make melee attacks against droids and suffer some sort of damage themselves, Obi Wan vs. Grevious and random Clone Trooper #3527681979 vs. random battle droid #85691093.

SO! I was thinking about giving droids a sort of special form of DR one that caused x amount of damage whenever they were struck by an unarmed attack. This damage could also be avoided by anyone with the Martial Arts I feat.

For normal droids it would be something based on their size, something like, 1 point for Fine, 2 for Diminutive, 3 for Tiny, 4 for small, 6 for medium, 10 for large, 15 for huge, 20 for Gargantuan, and like 30 for colossal. Something like that.

Now that I think about it the same should apply for normal everyday objects...

Also, maybe give droids that have armor an added bonus, maybe add on half their armor bonus to the damage inflicted?

Thoughts, suggestions, ideas?

Slamming your fist against a steel plate hurts the same whether it's on a man-sized droid or on a huge battletank. I'd say the damage should depend on the attack. E.g. if humans do 1d4 damage, roll damage normally and apply to the attacker.

For that matter, I'd rule the same applies to an unarmed human hitting a trooper in plate armor.

It's mostly due to the humor value, breaking up an otherwise serious fight, so: minor penalty (at most) for a round, like one effective step down the condition track, and get on with it. Oh, and narrate as if the character in question were Jackie Chan.

The following Attack of Opportunity is the bit where the iron dude, either grinning or eyes a-glowy, flings the poor guy across the room, anyway; what damage results from hitting it won't be the thing that matters by then, so why bother tracking it? ;)

Perhaps it's indicative of my GMing style but I've always just role played this sort of thing when it comes up in my games. If a character wants to punch something solid that's fine and I just describe them reel back and clutch their sore knuckles for a moment. I don't see it as a case of permament damage (especially since this is Star Wars we're talking about) but I make sure to let the player know that going fisticuffs with the tin man is not terribly good for their precious joints. Continued activity (such as a player attempting to punch his way through a blast door...don't ask) will result in broken appendages.

You mean fists of fury *isn't* the best-suited tactic for objects designed to withstand explosions? ^_^
