5 most sought after magic items for your characters? With every edition, there were always certain magic items that stood out amongst the rest.

Any rpgs are welcome. I'm old-school, so will list some items from the past, but for you newer players, feel free to list your most sought out magic items for your current campaigns.

Mine were:

1) Ring of Sustenance
2) Vampiric Ring of Regeneration
3) Vorpal Blade
4) Silver Sword
5) Deck of Many Things (what kid didn't want that one).

What share you?

Enjoy the thread...

Items that ALL my characters have wanted hm. Well lets see.

Heward's Handy Haversack

Ring of Sustenance

A magical weapon in one form or another

A cloak of lesser displacement. (constant 20% misschance, oh yeah :))

And finally, a minion. Not necessarily a powerful one, but something I could toss infront of me and use for cover like a towershield but without the attack penalty :D

It changes with each character I make. I would say the items in there most general are:

- Item that increases their primary attribute
- Protection item
- Resistance item
- Item to boost the most used skill
- Elemental resistance item (usually fire)

depends on the character... but usually something along these lines:

something that boosts or synergies with the characters preferred attack form.
something that boosts the weaknesses to make them stronger.
something that protects them from damage.
something that grants an off-beat, unexpected, or quirky advantage that can be used for surprise.
something that prevents them from being detected.

I've wanted to post on this thread since it started, but every time I opened the quick-answer box, something stopped me from typing. I just figured out what it was.

I can't answer.

Every character I roll up is so totally different that my top five is completely different for each of them. I think it just comes down to one item... some flavor of magical storage (portable hole, bag of holding, etc) and that's about it. Everything else I can think of is totally personal to the character.

Pillow of Happy Dreaming - guaranteed a restful nights sleep even if woken up to fight in the middle of the night.

+5 Armor with Greater Fortification

Ring of Flying

Ring that gave +20 to balance, jump, and tumble

Heward's Handy Haversack

+20 to balance, jump, and tumble?

Wow, that's one serious ring of 'you can't hit me - neener neener'

Wow, that's one serious ring of 'you can't hit me - neener neener'

As I recall, it was easy or cheap to have made. I had it for a character that got hit with a curse that interfered with those 3 skills - rather than give me penalties to the roll, my skill check for those skills was 1d4 + skill rating. The ring helped compensate for the curse.

So many choices:

1. ring of sustenance
2. ROP +3 or higher
3. magic weapon +3, or higher, keen or shocking burst
4. Cloak of resistance +3, or higher
5. Tome of [insert your stat}

As an alternate mention, a hewards haversack

Pretty boring list but they always seem so necessary.
