Ha! Finished my two projects. Thank Lolth, my babe girlfriend. Yeah, she's high maintenance, but she is hot. ...and that's what really counts, right?

She tries to give me the spiders kiss during the intimate times, but i know its only because her love for me scares her.

Thoth's trivia to P&PG members: Which novel talks about the spiders kiss, and what is it?

Extra respect points to be given for the title of the novel as well as the author.

Hints:

1) It is not a bite.
2) There is no poisen involved.
3) The author is female
4) It was a trilogy.

Great point. I never thought about it before.

One of many anachronisms of speech that hang with us. For example.

Broken Record -- How many people here have even seen an analog turntable? Never mind a record damaged so that it skips in a single groove.

Album -- This one is even more out of date. I have one, a real album. An actual paper and cardboard album that holds the 78 records that make up the South Pacific soundtrack. I don't even own a machine that can play them.

Taping something to watch later. --- Video tape isn't even made any more. An entire technology has been invented, developed and discarded within my lifetime.

I just tossed out my turntable because I gave all my albums to my brother last Christmas (He collects them as a hobby and has some very rare ones).

And right now, finally, after two weeks without, I am making my first post from my new apartment. It's about time - it was a real drag having to do it at the office.

Sascha

Sorta. The whole concept of 'album' - "book used for collecting related items)," as in 'photo album' - predates phonographic recording. So yeah, that use is out-of-date, but actual, definitional albums are still around. Just going by the wayside due to the new technologies.

Then again, the modern usage retains the *intent* of the original ("collection of..."), while sacrificing the medium ("book" or "paper"). Thus, 'set of songs' and 'digital gallery' are referred to as albums.

Personally, I'd side with intent over medium preservation.

tesral

Personally, I'd side with intent over medium preservation.

No saying one shouldn't. When is the last time you "dialed" a phone? Phones do not have dials any more. They have keypads.

The first home I am aware of had a party line. We moved when I was Eight and getting the private line was a big deal. When we were taught phone etiquette in school the party line was part of the lesson, as were dial less phones of which a few still existed.

We also used rocks on strings and beat on drums to get a message across the valley. Yes, it feels that way at times.

Party lines are still around, my college has one in most Departments for professors. Kinda ironic that the History Department has a party line :)

We had a real Arabic resturaunt. The place was shut down due to possible Al Qaeda connections- financial support or something. They got replaced by another Arabian place with a letter removed from the name.

They have been reopening everywhere but in Dearborn, under various names. Palm Palace in Auburn Hills is still using the same recipes.

I also never saw anything proven. Just accusations. Really, if you want to hound an Arabic businessman all you need to is shout Al Qaeda. It's better than screaming "Witchcraft!"

Funny. I saw a smartcar with racing stripes out here yesterday...pink racing stripes. Yep, it stood out.

You have to wonder if it really wanted to.

I am of the opinion that if you name something "Smart" or "Pretty" or some such, you're trying to cover over the obvious faults, really, really hard.

The "Smart" car is a prefect example. It looks stupid. It doesn't have enough cargo space for a week's groceries for one. It will hold about 1.5 people. The idea of "crumple zone" is totally lost on it. It looks capable of about 40 mpr with a good tailwind.

What is smart about this thing again? I could buy a massive 70s fuel hog, us it as much as I would use a "smart" car (which is not at all) and save just as much fuel for a lot less money.

right up there with the Ford festiva I saw with a spoiler on it

Talk about unnecessary equipment.

Have you encountered the car so plastered with a cause that you felt bad for the car?

I once saw a car with 8 racing mufflers on it. I guess the owner thought it was cool. All i was thinking was that i wished i had a camera for there was no way anyone would believe me.

Another time i saw this huge raised 4x4 truck. It had balls hanging from the back (you have all seen them), but what made this one stand out was that this ones balls were two basketballs in nylons. I laughed my ass off just wondering the look on womes faces when following said truck. LOL

No fire extinguishers did not come up. It was mainly aimed at the students. No DVDs either (rats) He did however mention beer. as in "Serve the good beer first."

Last Friday I was at OU for gaming. (dig) when I saw a sign at the Campus services office about an "Alton Brown Lecture." Now, Mr. Brown has brought fresh bread and good pancakes into my house. I cannot complain about him. His methods mean I cook meat better. I like Mr. Brown. I call my wife and asked if she would like to go. She all but jumped through the phone to get the tickets herself.

We went. Made a day of it. Time with the wife. She had today off work (Vacation she had to use up) and we had some fun today.

He was fun and funny. How Good Eats got started. He wrote three names on a piece of paper. "Julia Child, Mr. Wizard, Monty Python's Flying Circus." Explains a lot, doesn't it?

Picture is great, and i like the fact than you can scan through your saved flicks on Netflix as well as being able to scan back and forward with whichever movie your currently watching. All in all, it took me about 3 minutes to get it up and running.

On a better note, buddy of mine had an epiphany today. He thought of a great book/screenplay idea and i told him to count me in on the project. It would get alot of hatemail, but hey, that's good publicity. Besides, it would be enjoyable to read/write/watch in movie form, if we were so lucky.

The main artist had volunteers each create a piece and send it to her. She assembled it and then bordered it and mounted it. Each piece is about a 1'x18" or so in size so this is about 6' by 10'.

Game night ended a little early in my Ravenloft campaign because the party looked behind a painting on the wall and unwittingly opened up a can of worms. Had to end it on a cliff hanger with the players not knowing what's behind the painting.

Anyone ever read Ann Radcliff's The Mysteries of Udolpho? Great gothic romance.

I think that can of worms involves my work. Both clients are being a pain tonight. either that or Murphy is having a field day.

Reviewing my server logs. 23,000+ attempts to guess my password on my server since the 9th.

I need to review my snort logs and start filtering some of these addresses. I've already blocked Korea due to the high number of e-mail attacks.

Got an update to the sgm Shadowrun tool. Several breakthroughs so now it's just a matter of getting stuff together.

Putting some finishing touches on my game system for the 2.0 release based on tester feedback from the preview session. I'm also trying to figure out how to avoid calling my mom back, i just do not want to go out and do anything today. I'm preparing for gaming... but i'm way under prepared - in short - i'm severely lazy! My stomache's hurt for about 4 days now, and i'm down on energy... whatever it is robs me of motivation. And i'm listening to Bad Company while i type this.

Curse of the Necrarch SPOILER ALERT! A good read, BTW.

In the book, Curse of the Necrarch, http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/steven-savile/curse-of-necrarch.htm towards the end of the book a group of Knights and battle-hardened men about 800 strong were virtually wiped out by the water undead (undead living in the shallow lake surrounding the castle.

Had a hydrocodone night last night. I'll say no more. If you know what i am talking about then i know i have your sympathies. If you don't, then you don't want to know how SUCK the experience is. And yes, it is perscribed.

Got the media PC set back up after getting stuff moved around and the new TV in place. Installed Starcraft and retrieved the updates. I need to hunt down a wireless keyboard and mouse so I can play from the couch.

House is clean though and guests should be any minute.

Mauler needs an editor. 7th Symphony lasted 84 minutes, on the back...part of the program. It wasn't a half that's for sure. I like my music, but that was too long. I thought the fifth movement was ending three times before it finally did. Yea, fifth movement. That beast needs an intermission in the middle by itself. It's no wonder it is the least played of his works.

I have a Facebook account mainly to support my wife's forums. The server had some flaky hardware which caused it to lock up. It eventually got solved but while I waited on a server reboot or whatnot, forum folks would e-mail me asking what's going on. So I set up my account and then created one specifically for the forum so folks would be notified if the server was down for one reason or another. It's worked pretty well other than I have a lot of Mosaic friends :)

I've resisted as long as I could, never myspaced, facebooked, twittered, etc... but I decided my aversion to networking sites is outweighed by my desire to keep in touch with friends and family and locate some old friends.

Sitting here at work, coughing up a lung and watching Myth Busters.

Maybe you could send that in to Adam and Jamie, "is it actually possible to cough up part of a lung" not really sure how they'd test it though...
